On the day of the conquest of Makkah,
عَلَيْهِ صلا َ للهُّ
the messenger of 
granted وَس َ لّم
safety t o the people, except four men and
two women, of whom h e said: «Kill them
all, even if you find them clinging to the
covers of the Kaaba.» Among them h e
mentioned Ikrimah ibn Abi Jahl.
Ikrimah fled and embarked o n a ship, but
a strong wind came up, so the crew of the
ship said: Be sincere in calling upon Allah
Alone, for your gods cannot avail you
anything in this situation.
Ikrimah said: By Allah, if nothing will save
me from the sea except sincerity to Allah
Alone, then nothing except that will save
me on land. O Allah, I promise You that if
You save me from the situation I am in, I
اللهُّ صل shall go t o Muhammad
and put علَيْهِوَس َ لّم my hand i n his, and I shall certainly find
him kind and generous. So he came and
