I will now deal with some of the statement s made I hope that other on this site express their outrage and rejection of his racism and xenophobia and clarify the doubts now being spewed in the public.Firstly he said “But one of the problems (furrowed brow) with the history of Islam in this country is that when our forefathers came here they came from India. Their knowledge of and practice of Islam according to the Indian tradition is what had been handed down to us.”Iqbal, Islam is based on the Quran and the Sunnah and its interpretation according to the pious predecessors. The Messenger has said “Upon you is my Sunnah and the Sunnah of the rightly guided caliphs.” It does not matter where ones ancestors come from one has to follow the Quran and Sunnah. There is no Indian Tradition, there is only Islam. Are you insinuating that or some unexplained reason Allah gave Indians an understanding of Islam that He gave to no other? Also, Islam came to the Caribbean before Indians did, so looking to India or any other country for guidance is illogical and irrational.Secondly, he said “In recent years, Rabita (a Saudi Arabia-based international Muslim organisation) held a conference and a number of young Trinbagonians have gone to that country in order to learn Arabic in particular. And having come back with their newly acquired knowledge, each one seems to think they know Islam better than the others, so that some of the older Imams who have been trained around that generation who came from India sometimes are ignored even though they have the experience.”And“Our forefathers came from India with a very docile Islam in the sense that those who went to the Middle East met certain groups who are very militant in their understanding of Islam, in a very important aspect of Islam known as Jihad. But our view is that the majority of Muslims in Trinidad and Tobago accept that Jihad means a struggle, an internal struggle for us to achieve betterment of our spiritual values and so on.”Firstly, people who go to Saudi Arabia to learn Islam, learn more than just Arabic. This has always been a sore bone to the “traditional Imams” who fear losing following to people who can actually answer a question on Islam with evidences. The older Imams who have been promoting Indian superstitions have their bread and butter at risk. When someone realises that blessing a car is haram the older Imams lose their 200-500 “donation.” They may have life experience but their Islamic knowledge is lacking. Allah says “Say: This is my path. I call to Allah upon sure knowledge.” 12:108. So Iqbal, this knowledge is not particular to India but particular to the Quran and Sunnah and its correct interpretation.Thirdly he said “No we do not, definitely don’t, because we believe the Jihad of this age is with the pen and that is why I do so much of writing and host a radio programme.”This is the belief of the Qadiani. We mix, we intermingle, and we have functions in which they participate. In fact, the president of our organisation is a woman.”What did you say about free mixing and rulership of women? This is if the objective behind politics, as we stated before, is the administering of the ummah and the managing of its concerns in order to rectify what is in it from its religious and worldly affairs. So if this is what is intended by "politics", then this is fard kifaayah (a collective obligation). However, it is not for those people who are not in control of the state or of the rule, nor for those who can neither produce benefit nor cause harm.As for obtaining the news to be aware of the state of affairs and the weakness the Muslims are in, and in order to avoid this outcome, then as we say, this is from the tasfiyah (purification) and the tarbiyah (educating) – purifying Islaam from what has entered into it and focusing on educating the Muslims and bringing them up on this purified Islam. So knowing these general circumstances, which encompass the Muslims, is a must for the matter is as the old Arab poet has stated, taking his meaning from an authentic hadeeth:"I learned evil not for the sake of evil, but to avoid it And whoever doesn't know good from evil, he will fall into it."This is derived from a hadeeth – and I mean by it, the hadeeth of Hudhaifah Ibn Al-Yamaan, radyAllaahu 'anhumaa, which is reported in the Saheehs of Al-Bukhaaree and Muslim. He, radyAllaahu 'anhumaa, said: "The people used to ask Allaah's Messenger, sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, about the good, but I used to ask him about the evil for fear of it reaching me." So being aware of what the Muslims are upon from humiliation and weakness in order to turn them away from that towards using the means of knowledge, strength and power, this is an obligation from the many obligations.As for engaging at length in obtaining news, knowledge of battles and western politics, then this is from the aspect of: "Knowledge of something is better than being ignorant of it." This is something that we do not forsake. However, at the same time, we must not be very enthusiastic and fanatical about it. This is since the Prophet, sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, did not establish the affair of his Companions on knowing and following precisely, the news of his enemies to the same extent as he, sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, used to focus on teaching his Companions from one perspective and cultivating them on Allaah's command from another perspective. Beware of innovations during Ramadan

I ask Allah ta'ala, the mighty, to bless us all with a beneficial Ramadan. A Ramadan in which we would inculcate the noble characteristic of piety. Allah has said:

يأيها الذين امنوا كتب عليكم الصيام كما كتب على الذين من قبلكم لعلكم تتقون

"Oh ye who believe fasting has been prescribed upon you like those before you so that you may gain piety."

One of the many definitions of taqwa (piety) is to obey Allah in what he has legislated and to distance oneself from what he has prohibited wanting by this the pleasure of Allah.

From the matters which have been forbidden in the legislation is innovation (بدعة). The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) said in the Hadeeth of 'Irbaad Ibn Saariyah:

"و إياكم و محدثات الأمور فإن كل محدثة بدعة و كل بدعة ضلالة و كل ضلالة في النار"

And beware of newly invented matters in this religion. For every newly invented matter is an innovation and every innovation is misguidance and every (person of) misguidance is in the hellfire.

And the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) said pertaining to the one begins the innovation:

"من أحدث في أمرنا هذا ما ليس منه فهو رد"

Whoever innovates in this matter of ours it is rejected.

And he said pertaining to the one who acts upon the innovation:

"من عمل عملا ليس عليه أمرنا فهو رد"

Whoever does an action that is not from our actions it is rejected.

My dear readers, without doubts these conclusive proofs show that every single innovation is misguidance and that there is no such thing as good innovation (بدعة حسنة) because the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) said :

"و كل بدعة ضلالة"

And every innovation is misguidance.

This, me dear readers, is a general description about what innovation is and one has to bring clear, distinct evidence from either the Qur'an and the Sunnah to prove that the above statements of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) are to be taken out of its generality.

An important principle taken from the above Hadeeth is the statement:

"الأصل في العبادات المنع"

The basis of all worship is that they are prohibited (unless proven Halaal).

Therefore, it is unlawful to venture into any act of worship unless there is clear evidence to do that worship. For example we worship Allah through making Thikr (الذكر). However this Thikr has to be done in the manner which the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) did it. And it is unlawful to do it in a manner otherwise. Whether it is through dancing, singing (like what is found in the Anasheed) and otherwise.

On this note I will simply list some of the innovations that become apparent before and during Ramadan so that our Muslim brothers and sisters be on the alert:

1. Moon-sighting using calculations. This is an innovation of the Raafidah Shee'ah as Ibn Hajar Al Asqalani stated in Fath Ul Baari. And this goes contradictory to the Hadeeth in Bukhari and Muslim where the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) said:

"صوموا لرؤيته و أفطروا لرؤيته"

Fast by seeing it and break the fast by seeing it.

Therefore the moon-sighting has been ascribed to sight rather than calculation in the Shar'iah.

If a person says: "Well in the Prophet's time they did not calculate the moon due to their incapability"

We say to them, Ya Akhii, without doubt calculations for different things were used in the Prophet's time. Two examples of this are Zakaah and Inheritance. Therefore, this statement is completely incorrect.

2. Articulating the intention for Ramadaan (Nawaitu An Asuuma Yauma Ghadin ....)

This has no evidence, neither the Qur'an nor the Sunnah. Rather the intention is the decision made in the heart first. Hence, once a person's intention is in his heart it is not required of him to recite the intention aloud. Rather his actions would show his intention.

3. Making the time to stop eating the Suhoor different from the time of Dawn. On many calenders we see: Time to stop eating. And in a separate column: Time for dawn. This goes in direct contradiction with the Qur'an where Allah has said:

"و كلوا واشربوا حتى يتبين لكم الخيط الأبيض من الخيط الأسود من الفجر"

"And eat and drink until the white thread of dawn is separate from the black thread. "

Allah permitted for the Muslims to eat until dawn. And he did not say stop eating five or ten minutes before dawn.

4. Delaying breaking the fast beyond sunset. We see imams give a talk, then make a long du'a and five minutes after the sun has set the Mu'adhin calls the Adhan and everyone breaks the fast. And this is contrary to the Hadeeth in Saheeh Bukhari where the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) said:

"لا يزال الناس بخير ما عجلوا الفطر"

The people would remain upon good once they hurry in breaking the fast.

5. Congregational Du'a in breaking the fast. Where we see Imams raising their hands with the rest of the Jama'ah and then they break the fast. This has no basis whatsoever in the Sunnah. Rather the Muslim he says Bismillah then eats.

And as for the du'as for breaking the fast many of them are weak. Wallahu Musta'aan.

6. Tasbeeh for Taraweeh. (Subhana Zil Mulki Wal Malakoot) after every 4 Raka'ah. This has no basis in the Sunnah.

7. Making Du'a Khatmul Qur'an in congregation on the 27th night. This has two issues:

i. Making the Du'a Khatmul Qur'an in congregation. This is not from the Sunnah of the Messenger (صلى الله عليه و سلم). Rather there are Aathar of Anas Ibn Malik doing it outside of prayer. Meaning that after he finished reading the Qur'an he used to gather his family and make Du'a with his family.

As for those who wish to make it seem that I accuse the 'Ulama of Bid'ah by putting this, this is the information given to me by Shaikh Hasan Ibn Abdul Wahhab Al Banna when I called him about three years ago pertaining to the issue.

ii. Doing so on the 27th night. The fact is that we are not even sure whether or not the 27th night is Lailatul Qadr. As we were told by the Messenger (صلى الله عليه و سلم) to seek out the night of Qadr in the last ten nights. And in another narration in the last 7 nights (Bukhari, Muslim)

8. Visiting the graves on the day of 'Eed. Although visiting the graves is a Sunnah, to make this visit specific on certain occasions such as the 15th of Sha'baan and the day of 'Eid makes this a type of innovation called (بدعة إضافية) or where the innovation has one aspect of Sunnah but because it does not fulfill one of the conditions of worship it becomes an innovation. In this case it is putting forward a specific time for an act of worship in which there is no specific time for.

And Allah knows best.

[Q]: What are the foundations that will enable the Islaamic world to arise again anew?

[A]: That which I believe, is what has been reported in the authentic hadeeth - which is a clear answer to this question, and to those questions similar to it which are asked in our present time - and that is the Prophet sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam's saying: "When you deal in 'eenah (a transaction involving usury), take hold of the tails of cows, become content with agriculture and abandon jihaad in the path of Allaah, then Allaah will permit your humiliation and He will not remove it from you, until you return to your Religion."2 Thus the foundation is to return to Islaam.

This very fact has been pointed out by Imaam Maalik (d.179H), rahimahullaah, in a statement transmitted from him, which is worthy of being written in gold ink: and that is his saying: "Whosoever introduces into Islaam an innovation, and holds it to be something good, has indeed alleged that Muharnrnad sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam has betrayed his message. Read the saying of Allaah - the Most Blessed - the Most High:

"This day I have perfected your religion for you, completed My favour upon you and I have chosen for you Islaam as your religion." [Soorah al-Maa'idah 5:3].

So that which was not part of the religion at that time, cannot be part of the religion today. And the last part of this Ummah cannot be rectified, except by that which rectified its first part."3

The last sentence is the essential part with regards to the answer to this question, since he said: "And the last part of this Ummah cannot be rectified, except by that which rectified its first part." So, just as the affair of the Arabs in jaahillyyah (pre-Islaamic ignorance) was not rectified, except by the advent of the Prophet Muhammad sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam via Divine Revelation - which brought them happiness in this world and will bring them salvation in the Hereafter - then likewise, re-establishing a happy and successful Islaamic life cannot be based upon anything other than returning to the Qur'aan and the Sunnah (the Prophetic guidance).

However, this matter is in need of some clarification, due to the presence of a multitude of Islaamic groups and parties in our midst today, each of them claiming to have set out the correct manhaj (methodology) which will bring about the Islaamic society and the rule of Islaam.

We know from the Book of Allaah and the Sunnah of Allaah's Messenger sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam that the path to be taken in order to realise this objective (of bringing about the Islaamic society and the rule of Islaam) is a single path, and that is the one which Allaah - the Mighty and Majestic - mentions in His saying:

"Indeed this is My Straight Path, so follow it, and do not follow other paths that will separate you from His Path." [Soorah al-An'aam 6:152].

And Allaah's Messenger sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam explained this to his Companions, since: One day he drew a straight line for them on the ground and then drew many short lines on both sides of it. He then recited the previous aayah (verse) whilst he was moving his noble finger over the straight line, and he said: "This is Allaah 's Path." He then pointed to the other lines and said: "These are other paths, and at the head of each one their is a devil calling towards it."4

Our Lord - the Mighty and Majestic - emphasised in another aayah this very same point which was mentioned in the previous aayah; along with the explanation of Allaah's Messenger sallullaahu 'alayhi wa sallam in the hadeeth. Allaah - the Most High - said:

"And whosoever opposes the Messenger, even after the guidance has been clearly conveyed to him, and follows a path other than that of the Believers, we shall leave him in the path he has chosen and land him in Hell, what an evil destination." [Soorah an-Nisaa 4:115].

This aayah (verse) contains a great wisdom, since He - the Most Perfect - placed the path of the Believers in conjunction with that which the Messenger sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam brought. And the fine point of this wisdom was also indicated by the Allaah's Messenger sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam in the hadeeth of al-lftiraaq (the

authentic narration concerning the splitting-up of this Ummah into seventy-three sects), when he was asked about the Saved-Sect, so he replied: "It is that which I and my Companions are upon today."5

So what is the wisdom in Allaah - the Mighty and Majestic - mentioning the path of the Believers in the previous aayah' And what is the underlying point of Allaah's Messenger sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam mentioning his Companions straight after mentioning himself, in the previous hadeeth?

The answer to this is: that these noble Companions are the very people who received the two Revelations (the Qur'aan and the Sunnah) from Allaah's Messenger sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, who explained it to them directly - without an intermediary - and this is contrary to all those who came after them. And there is no doubt that the affair is as Allaah's Messenger sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam said: "Indeed, the one present sees that which the absent one does not."6 This is why the eemaan (faith) of the Companions was greater than those who came after them, and this is what has been clearly indicated by the Messenger sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam in the authentic hadeeth: "The best of mankind is my generation, then those who follow them, then those who follow them."7 Therefore, it is not possible for any Muslim to independently understand the Book and the Sunnah. Rather one must seek aid in understanding them by returning to the understanding of the noble Companions, who took their understanding from the Prophet sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam; via his statements, his actions and his tacit approvals.
Thus, along with calling to the Book and the Sunnah, it is absolutely essential to attach to this the understanding and the practice of the Salafus-Saalih (the Pious Predecessors: the first three generations of Muslims whose excellence has been testified to in the above hadeeth); acting upon the preceding verses and hadeeth, which order clinging to the path of the Believers, which has been explained to be the path upon which the Prophet sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, his Companions and those who followed them in beliefs and actions, were upon.

And here, a very important question arises, which many of the Islaamic groups and parties neglect; and that is: How does one obtain knowledge of the understanding and the practical application of the Sunnah that the Companions adhered to?

The answer to this is: that there is no way in obtaining this knowledge, except by returning to 'ilmul-hadeeth (the knowledge of hadeeth); 'ilm mustalahul-hadeeth (the science of hadeeth) and the science of al-jarh wat-ta'deel (the science of verifying the condition of the narrators) - applying its principles and its terms such that the Scholars are able to distinguish that which is authentic from the Prophet sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, from that which is not.

So in ending the answer to the question, we say in the the dearest possible manner, to those who desire to bring back to Islaam its honour, strength, supremacy and rule, that you must actualise two matters:

Firstly: to bring back to the minds of the Muslims the knowledge of the Sharee'ah (Laws) of Islaam; purified from all the innovations that have entered into it, which was not part of it on the day when Allaah - the Most Blessed, the Most High - revealed His saying:

"This day I have perfected your religion for you, completed My favour upon you and I have chosen for you Islaam as your religion." [Soorah al-Maa'idah 5:3].

Accomplishing this matter requires a huge and tremendous effort on the part of the Muslim Scholars in all parts of the world.

Secondly: It is a must that this purified knowledge is coupled with constant and steadfast action.

Thus, the day the Muslims return to understanding their religion as the Companions of Allaah's Messenger sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam understood it; and then act upon this purified Islaam in the correct manner, in all aspects of life, then that will be the day that the Muslims will rejoice at the help of Allaah and His victory. So this is what I am able to write in this short time. I ask Allaah that He grants us and all the Muslims the correct understanding of Islaam - in light of the Book, the authentic Sunnah (guidance) of His Messenger sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam and that which the Salafus-Saalih (Pious Predecessors) were upon - and that He grants us the ability to act in accordance with it. Indeed Allaah is the One who hears and responds.

Imaam Sufyaan (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:

Be truthful at all times and in all places. Stay away from lying and from deception, and do not sit alongside liars and deceivers, for all such deeds are sins.

My brother, be careful not to show off, either in speech or in deed, for showing off is Shirk itself (Shirk being to associate partners with Allaah in worship).

Do not be conceited, for even a good deed is not raised (to the heavens) if any conceitedness is involved in it.

Take your religion only from one who is sincerely and compassionately concerned about his own religious guidance. The example of a scholar who is not concerned about his own religious well-being is that of a sick doctor: If he cannot treat his own disease…then how can he treat the diseases of others…? Likewise, if one is not concerned about his own religious well-being, then how can he be concerned about the religious well-being of others?

My brother, your religion is nothing more than your flesh and blood (i.e., You should be concerned about your religious well-being, because if you aren’t, it is your flesh and blood that will pay the penalty through the punishment of Allaah). Cry out of concern for your soul and have mercy on it; if you do not have mercy on it, then mercy will not be shown to it.

Sit only in the company of one who advises you to desire little from this world and who encourages you to put your hopes in the Hereafter. Take care not to sit with worldly people who speak constantly about worldly affairs; such people will ruin your religious well-being and will corrupt your heart.

Remember death frequently, and just as frequently ask Allaah to forgive you for your past sins.

Ask Allaah to keep you safe (safe from evil, from dangerous diseases, from trials and tribulations, etc) for the remainder of your life.

My brother, develop a good character and noble manners.

Do not act contrary to the Jamaa’ah (the general body of Sunni Muslims), for goodness and safety are the consequences of being in harmony with the Jamaa’ah.

Someone who strives constantly for this world is like a person who builds one home and destroys another (because he builds prosperity for himself in this world, while he destroys all chances of becoming prosperous in the Hereafter).

Give sincere advice to every believer who asks you a question regarding his religion. And never hide good advice to someone who asks you about a matter that leads to the Good Pleasure of Allaah (subhaanahu wa ta’aala).

If you love your (Muslim) brother for the sake of Allaah, then give him generously from your self and your wealth.

Stay far away from arguments, quarrels, and disputes; otherwise, you will become a wrongdoer, a transgressor, and a deceiver.

Be patient at all times and in all places, for patience leads to righteousness, and righteousness leads to Paradise. Do not become angry and furious, for those two emotions lead to wickedness, and wickedness leads to the Hellfire.

Do not argue with a scholar, for that will lead to him loathing you. Being able to visit scholars (and learn from them) is a mercy, and cutting oneself off from them means that one is bringing down upon himself the wrath of Allaah (subhaanahu wa ta’aala). Verily, the scholars are the treasurers of the Prophets (‘alayhumus salaam) and are also their inheritors.

Turn away from worldly pleasures and things (to a certain degree), and, as a result, Allaah will enable you to see the faults and defects of this world. Be a man of Wara’ (one who forsakes all dubious and some lawful things because he fears that those things will lead to what is prohibited in Islaam), and (on the Day of Resurrection) Allaah will make your session of accountability easier for you.

Leave many of the things regarding which you are doubtful, and replace them with things regarding which you are not doubtful, and you will, as a result, remain safe: So by warding off doubt with certainty, you will remain safe in your religion.

Enjoin good and forbid evil — thus will you become loved by Allaah. Despise wicked-doers, and drive away devils (regardless of whether they are humans or jinn).

If you want to become strong (in faith)…then be exultant only a little and laugh only a little when you get something you want from this world. Concentrate on working for the Hereafter; if you do that, Allaah will be sufficient for you regarding your worldly concerns….

Ask Allaah for safety (in both your religious and worldly affairs). If you intend to something for your Hereafter – such as giving charity – then apply yourself to doing it quickly before the Shaytaan (the Devil) weakens your resolve and thus prevents you from doing it.

Do not be a heavy eater, whereby you work less than you eat, for that is disliked (in Islaam). Do not eat without an intention, and do not eat when you are not hungry. And do not fill your stomach constantly until you become a corpse, not having remembered Allaah while you were alive (but instead having been concerned with eating to your full and fulfilling your desires).

Decrease the frequency with which you fall into error, accept apologizes (from those who wronged you), and forgive the person who wronged you.

Be the type of person from whom people generally expect good things and from whose evil people feel safe.

Do not hate anyone who obeys Allaah, and be merciful both towards people in general and towards those with whom you are well-acquainted (or both to the general masses of Muslim and to people of high standing in society).

Do not sever the ties of the womb (i.e., do not cut off relations with family members and relatives), and join ties with those who have severed them from you. Pardon those who wronged you, and you will, as a result, become a companion of the Prophets and martyrs.

Do not be a frequent visitor of the marketplace, for the people there (mostly sellers, but some buyers also) are wolves in men’s clothing. Marketplaces are often frequented by devils – devils both of the human kind and of the jinn kind. When you enter the marketplace, it becomes obligatory upon you to enjoin good and forbid evil – but know that you will only see evil there. Stand to one side of the marketplace and call out: ‘I bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped but Allaah alone; He has no partner; the dominion of all that exists belongs to Him. He is deserving of all praise. It is He Who gives life, and it is He Who causes death. All goodness is in His hands, and He is upon all things capable. There is neither might nor power except with Allaah, the All-High, the All-Mighty. [ Check - 1 Million Virtues + 1 Million Sins Forgiven + 1 Million Grades Raised]

Do not enter into disputes with worldly people over their worldly things, and, as a result, Allaah will love you, and the people of earth will love you.

And be humble….When you are healthy, do good deeds, and you will be granted safety and health (physically and spiritually) from above.

Be a forgiving person, and you will get the things you want. Be a merciful person, and all things will be merciful towards you.

My brother, do not allow your days, nights, and hours to be wasted on falsehood. Spend from your self for yourself – for the Day of Thirst (the Day of Resurrection). My brother, your thirst will not be quenched on the Day of Resurrection unless the Most Merciful is pleased with you, and you will not achieve His Good pleasure unless you are obedient to Him. Perform many voluntary good deeds, for they have the effect of bringing you closer to Allaah.

Be generous, and your faults will be covered, and Allaah will make easier for you your session of accountability (on the Day of Resurrection) as well as the horrors (that will take place on that day).

Perform many good deeds, and Allaah will make you feel happy and at ease in your grave. Stay away from all prohibited deeds, and thus will you taste the sweetness of faith (Eemaan). Sit in the company of righteous and pious people, and Allaah will make well for you the affairs of your religion. And in the affairs of your religion, consult those who fear Allaah. Hasten to perform good deeds, and Allaah will protect you from disobeying Him.

Remember Allaah frequently, and, as a result, Allaah will make you less desirous of this world (and its pleasures and possessions). Remember death, and, as a result, Allaah will make your worldly affairs easier for you. Yearn for Paradise, and, as a result, Allaah will help you obey Him. Be frightened by the Hellfire, and, as a result, Allaah will make it easier for you to endure the hardships of this life.”

The Heart and its Enslavement - Obsession of the Heart (Uboodiyyah)

By way of introduction it should be pointed out, both to muslims and non -muslims alike, that this treatise was originally written in arabic to an audience consisting predominantely of men. Furthermore, it was presented to a culture which did not analyse human behaviour on the basis of "sexism", or "feminism", but to an environment which was free of these modern day innovations. This is, perhaps, why the discussion is referred primarily to men. It should be pointed out that whenever the shaikh (scholar) refers to "men" that the discussion can be extended to incorporate a similar, if not the same, observation for women. Although during his life the great shaikh was taught by at least eleven female scholars of religion and would often refer specifically to women in many of his essays, perhaps, on the occasion of this dissertation, he was mainly involved in the sphere of men. Nevertheless, when one is involved in understanding Islam one should never allow anything to enter into discussion which does not have a basis within the Qur'an and the Sunnah (authentic narrations).

Shaikh-ul-Islam Ibn Taimiyyah says:

When a man's heart becomes attached to a woman, even though she is lawfu l for him, his heart will be her captive. She controls him and manipulates him a s she wills. In appearance he is her lord because he is her husband or her posse ssor. However, in reality, he is her captive and is possessed by her especially when she knows his need and his passion for her. Then she will control him in th e same way in which a conquering, aggressive master controls an overpowered slav e who cannot escape from his master. Even worse than this is the captivity of th e heart; this is more severe than the captivity of the body, and enslavement of the heart is much more severe than the enslavement of the body. Verily, whoever' s body is subdued, enslaved and captivated will not care so long as his heart is reassured and is serene. In this way, it is possible for him to escape.

In the other case though, when the heart, which dominates the body; is s ubdued, enslaved and enthralled by love for other than Allah, then, this is inde ed mere humiliation and captivity. It is the humiliating Uboodiyah (enslavement ) that has subdued the heart.

The Uboodiyah of the heart and its captivity form the basis on which go od reward or bad punishment will be incurred. If a muslim is captivated by a kaa fir or is enslaved by a profligate and given no rights, it will not harm him so long as he can fulfil his duties to Allah Azzawajal. Whoever is lawfully subdued and fulfils the rights of Allah Azzawajal and the rights of his master will be rewarded twice. Even if he is forced to pronounce Kufr (disbelief), pronouncing it with his tongue but keeping Eeman (conviction, faith) in his heart, the utter ance will not harm him. But the one whose heart is subdued and becomes an abd ( slave) for other than Allah will be harmed by that even if he is a king. Freedom is the freedom of the heart and al-Uboodiyah (enslavement) is the Uboodiyah o f the heart. Similarly, well-being is the well-being of the soul. The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu-alaihi-wasallam) said :"Well being is not how much wealth y ou have; but it is the well-being of the soul."

This, by Allah, is the case when a lawful image has enslaved one's heart . But whoever's heart is enslaved by an unlawful image will earn a torment more severe than any known torment.

These people who are obsessed by images are of the most severely punishe d and the least rewarded. For if one is obsessed by an image and his heart remai ns attached to it and subdued by it, he will be surrounded by so many kinds of e vils and corruption that they cannot be counted but by the Lord of al-Ibaad (th e servants) even if he were safe from committing the greatest Faahisha (obscenit y i.e. az-Zina - fornication). Continuous attachment of the heart1 without commi ting al-Faahisha is more harmful for him than it is for the person who commits a sin and repents of it. Since, afer true repentance the attachment and affectio n vanishes from his heart.2 These people are likened to drunk people or the insa ne. It has been said:

"They said you were driven insane by that which you have a passion for.I replied to them that passion causes more harm than insan ty."

As for this passion, the one who is obsessed by it will never awake unti l the end of time. However, the insane only exhibit their madness during certain periods.

Of the greatest causes of this affliction is the heart's turning away fr om Allah for when the heart senses the taste of worshipping Allah and sincerity towards Him, nothing will be more tasty to it than that; and nothing will be more delightful and enjoyable than that. A human being will not leave a lover excep t to replace him with another lover more beloved to him than the former, or he c an leave a lover fearing some harm. Verily, the heart will turn from a corrupt l ove to a righteous love, or from fear of imparting harm.

Allah Taaala said concerning Yusuf:

Thus (did We order) that We might turn away from him e vil and al-Fahshaah (illegal sexual intercourse)3

Thus, Allah turns away from His abd (servant) that which could be evil for him from the inclination towards images and the attachment to them. He also turns al-Fahshaah (the blatant sin) away from him when he is sincere to Allah. H ence, before he tastes the sweetness of al-Uboodiyah (Enslavement) to Allah and sincerity for Him, he will be forced by his soul to follow it's own passion. Bu t once he obtains the taste of sincerity and becomes strong in his heart, then h is passion will submit to Him (Allah) without any effort. Allah Ta aala said:

Verily, As-Salaat (the prayer) prevents the committing of Al-F ahshaah (the obscene, blatant sin) and al- Munkar (the evil) a nd the Remembrance of Allah is the greatest.4

Indeed, in As-Salaat (the prayer) there is repulsion of harmful things, i.e. Al-Fahshaah (the obscene blatant sin) and Al-Munkar (the evil conduct) and there is attainment of a beloved thing, the remembrance of Allah. The attainment of this beloved thing is greater than the repulsion of the harmful things. Veri ly, the remembrance of Allah is, by itself,a worship of Allah; and the heart's w orship of Allah is sought for itself, whereas the repulsion of evil from the hea rt is sought for other than itself. Instead, it is needed for something else. Th e heart has been created loving the truth, seeking it and striving for it; but w hen the will of evil confronts it, then the heart demands the repulsion of the e vil will because the latter spoils the heart as a plantation is spoiled with wee ds. That is why Allah Ta aala said:

Indeed he succeeds who sanctifies it (his own soul) a nd indeed he fails who corrupts it (his own s oul).5

And He, Azzawajal, said:

Indeed he shall achieve success who sanctifies himself and brings to mind the name of Allah and performs salaat (praye r).6

And He, Azzawajal, said:

Tell the believing men to lower their gaze and to protect their private parts from sin. That is more sanctifying for them...7

And He, Azzawajal, said:

And had it not been for the grace of Allah and His mer cy upon you, not one of you would ever have been sanctified. 8

Thus Allah Ta aala made the lowering of the gaze and the protection of the sexual organs from Az-Zinaa (fornication) as the strongest sanctification of the soul.

He also showed that avoiding blatant sins is a part of the sanctification of the soul. The sanctification of the soul comprises keeping away from all ev ils including blatant sins, injustice, shirk (associating partners with Allah Az zawajal) and lying.

The same is true for one who is seeking leadership and dominion on eart h. His heart is a slave to those who help him with his aim although he, in appea rance, is their leader and the obeyed one among them. In reality he has hope in them and fears them. He would offer them wealth and countries, and would overloo k what they have wrongly commited so that they would obey and help him with his aims. In appearance he is an obeyed leader while in fact he is their obedient sl ave.

The fact of the matter is that both of them manifest worship for each ot her and both of them have gone away from the actual worship of Allah. Moreover, if their mutual help is for an unjust dominion on earth, then they are on the le vel of those who mutually help each other to commit al-Faahishah (the blatant sins) or to cut off the way. Hence, each one of them, who originally was a slave a nd obsessed by his passion, becomes subdued by the other.

The same is the case of the one who strives for wealth; this wealth can obsess and subdue him. However, wealth is of two types: one type is that for whi ch al-'Abd (the servant) has a need, such as food, drink, shelter and marital li fe. This type should be asked for from Allah and should be sought for His pleasu re. Thus, this wealth, which a person uses for his needs, is of the same level a s his donkey which he rides, or his mat, on which he sits. Furthermore, it shoul d be regarded on the same level as a water closet in which he satisfies his need without becoming subdued or dismayed by it. Allah Ta' aala said:

Irritable (discontented) when evil touches him and niggard ly when good touches him.9

The other type of wealth is that which al-Abd (the servant) does not ne ed for his necessities. He should not attach his heart to this type of wealth. F or if he does attach his heart to it, he becomes subdued by it. Furthermore, he might begin relying upon other than Allah. Then, nothing of the actual worship w hich is due to Allah nor of the true reliance upon Allah will remain with him. I nstead, he will be pursuing a branch of worship of other than Allah and a brach of reliance upon other than Allah. This person is the most deserving of the sayi ng of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu-alaihi-wasallam): "May the worshipper of ad-Dirham be wretched. May the worshipper of ad-Dinar be wretched. May the wo rshipper of velvet cloth be wretched. May the worshipper of silk cloth be wretched."10

This person is indeed a slave of these objects. For if he asks Allah for these objects and if Allah grants him what he has requested, then he is please d. But if Allah denies him what he has asked for, he is upset. However, the true abd (servant) of Allah is the one who is pleased with what Allah and his Messe nger love and hates what is hated by Allah and his Messenger and will make alleg iance with the Awliyaa Allah (those near to Allah) and take for enemies the enem ies of Allah.

This is the person who has completed his Eeman (faith, conviction) as na rrated in the hadeeth: "Whoever loves for Allah, hates for Allah, and gives for Allah and denies for Allah has indeed completed Eeman."11 and he said: "The most strong of al-Eeman's (Faith's) ties is loving for the sake of Allah and hati ng for the sake of Allah."12

1. That is when the person is not mindful of Allah and not even striving to rem ove it (the image) from his own soul so that his Uboodiyah becomes purely since rely for his Lord. Thus in this case it cannot be considered an absolute evil and, hence, it cannot be more harmful than that which was mentioned about the other case. (Al-Albaanee).

That is because the continuous attachment of the heart to the image, according to the above detail, must force the person to disobey the Shareeah even in an aspect which is not directly related to the greatest Faahisha (blatant sin) s uch as neglecting some of his own personal obligations or those of whom he supports. Ibn 'Uyayna commented: The greatest favour Allaah has bestowed on His slaves is their knowledge and realisation of "There is no deity but Allaah", and that to the dwellers of Paradise it is like cool water to the people of this world. [Kalimat Al-Ikhlaas by Ibn Rajab pp.52-53]

Ibn Rajab says in enumerating the merits of the kalima: That Paradise is its reward, that its utterance before death will cause one to be admitted to Paradise, it is a refuge from Hell, it causes forgiveness, it is the best of the good deeds; it washes away sins and vices, revives ones's faith when it has faded away and outweighs sins. It traverses all barriers in order to be accepted by Allaah the Almighty. It is the statement whose pronouncer will be accepted by Him, and it is the best proclamation ever uttered by the prophets. It is the best celebration of His praises, the best of deeds, and its multiplication into good deeds is the greatest. It is tantamount to setting slaves free. It is a protection against shaitaan. It is safety amidst the darkness of the grave and the terror of Resurection. It is the motto of the believers when they emerge out of their tombs. The eight doors of Paradise will be accessible to its pronouncer. Further, the people who pronounce it are certain to quit Hell even after they have been cast into it for falling short of observing its obligations. [Kalimat Al- Ikhlaas by Ibn Rajab pp. 54-66]

Hope and Avidity

Mankind differs to a great extent in Al-'Uboodiyah to Allah. Their differences are a quantative disparity in the reality of al-Eemaan. In this regard they are often two types: general, and specific. Consequently, their perception of the divinity of Ar-Rabb is also of two types: vague, and detailed.

Thus, ash-Shirk in this Ummah is more hidden than the crawling of ants.

The Messenger said, "May the worshipper of Ad- Dirham be wretched. May the worshipper of Ad- Deenaar be wretched. May the worshipper of velvet cloth be wretched. May the worshipper of silk cloth be wretched. May he be wretched and disappointed. When such a one is pierced with thorns they cannot be extracted. When he is granted (what he desires), he is pleased; and when he is denied, he is displeased..." [Bukhaaree & Ibn Maajah upon Abu Hurayrah (R)]

The Messenger labelled such a person: The worshipper of ...; mentioned his curse and his condition. Neither did he attain his aim, nor did he escape the harm.

And among them are some who accuse you (O Muhammad ) in the matter of (the distribution of) the alms. If they are given part thereof, they are pleased; but if they are not given thereof, behold! They are enraged! [At-Tawbah ayah 58]

Thus their contentment is for other than Allaah and their rage is for other than Allaah. [These are the hypocrites whom Allaah has mentioned in the rest of the verses. See Zaad Al-Maseer by Imaam Ibn Al-Jawzee, Vol. 3, p.454]

He is therefore the 'Abd of that which he desires: leadership, certain image, or any desire of the soul. The heart is the 'Abd of whatever enslaves it and subdues it. [Al-'Uboodiyah, part 1, by Ibn Taymiyah]

If he renounces anything he will not seek it and will not have avidity for it. His heart will not be in need of it nor will it be in need of the person who would accomplish it for him.

'Umar ibn Al-Khattaab (RA) said, "Avidity is poverty, and renunciation is richness. If one of you renounces anything he will dispense with it."

Al-Khaleel, Ibraheem (AS) said:

. . So seek from Allaah (Alone) your subsistence and worship Him (Alone), and be grateful to Him. To Him (Alone) will be your return. [Al-'Ankaboot ayah 17]

Al-'Abd must have subsistence. He is in need of that. If he seeks his subsistence from Allaah, he becomes an 'Abd for Allaah, but if he seeks it from a created being, he becomes an 'Abd for that created being and in need of him. That is why begging from a created being was forbidden in principle but is allowed for under necessity.

The Messenger said, "One of you would still be begging until he comes on the Day of Resurrection without a bit of flesh on his face." [Bukhaaree, Muslim, an-Nasaa'ee upon 'Abdullaah ibn 'Umar (R)]

The Messenger (sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) said, "Whoever begged from people while having enough, his begging will be scratches on his face." [at- Tabaraanee upon Jaabir (R)]

The Messenger said, "Begging is forbidden except when there is a great debt, suffering injury, or abasing poverty." [Abu Daawood & al-Bayhaqee upon Anas (R)]

The Messenger said, "It is much better for one of you to take his rope and go to chop wood (for his livelihood) than to beg from people, whether they give him anything or deny him." [Bukhaaree, Ibn Maajah & others upon Az-Zubayr ibn Al-'Awwaam (RA)

The Messenger said, "Whoever dispenses (with anything), Allaah shall enrich him. Whoever seeks chastity, Allaah will make him chaste. Whoever perseveres, Allaah will provide him with patience. No one has been given such a gift better and more ample than patience." [Bukhaaree, Muslim, Maalik, Abu Daawodd, an-Nasaa'ee, at-Tirmidthee upon Abu Sa'eed al-Khudree (RA)]

In Saheeh Muslim and other books, upon 'Awf ibn Maalik it is reported that the Messenger when he accepted his pledge of allegience together with a group of people, whispered to them a secret word, "Do not ask people for anything." Thereafter, when a whip used to drop from the hand of a person of this group, they would not say to anyone, "Hand it to me."

.. So when you finish from your occupation, then stand up for Allaah's worship, and to your Lord (alone) turn (all your intentions and hopes and) your invocations. [Ash-Sharh ayaat 7-8]

The Messenger said to Ibn 'Abbaas (R), "...and if you ever should ask someone for something, then ask Allaah, and if you ever should seek help from someone, then seek it from Allaah" [At-Tirmidthee, Ahmad, & al-Haakim - this hadeeth is Hasan by virtue of another hadeeth.]

He should not request his subsistence except from Allaah and should not refer in his complaint except to Allaah alone as Ya'qoob (AS) said:

...I complain of my grief and sorrow only to Allaah. [Yoosuf ayah 86]

Allaah Ta'aala mentioned in al-Qur'aan nice banishment, gracious forgiueness and fine patience. It was said that: Nice banishment is a banishment without hurting anyone, gracious forgiveness is a forgiving without blaming anyone, and fine patience is a patience without complaining to any created being.

When it was read for Ahmad ibn Hanbal during his sickness that Taawoos used to hate the moaning of a sick man and used to say, "It is a complaint," therafter Ahmad would not groan until he died.

Complaint to the Creator does not contradict fine patience.

...Then a fine patience is most fitting for me...[Yoosuf ayah 83]

...I complain of my grief and sorrow only to Allaah... [Yoosuf ayah 86]

'Umar ibn al-Khattaab (RA) was once reciting in Fajr surat Yoonus, Yoosuf and an-Nahl. When he passed this ayah in his recitation, he cried until his sob was heard in the last rows.

Supplication of Moosaa (A)

"O Allaah! It is for You, all praises and thanks. It is for You the complaint, and it is You Whom we ask for help, from You we seek rescue, on You we rely, and there is no strength for anyone nor power except from You."

The more the ambition of Al-'Abd becomes avid for the graciousness of Allaah and His Mercy to accomplish his need and prevent harm from him, the stronger becomes his 'Uboodiyah to Allaah, and the larger becomes the extent of his freedom from other than Allaah.

Hope must be in Allaah and not in anything created, eg., leadership position, followers, wealth, etc.

...And put your trust in the Living One, Who will never die, and celebrate praises and thanks and sufficient is He to be acquainted with the sins of His 'Ibaad. [ al-Furqaan ayah 58]

Thus, whoever attaches his heart to created beings in order for them to render him victorious or to provide him with sustenance or even to guide him, his heart will submit to them (created beings), and he indulges in Al-'Uboodiyah to them equivalent to the level of his heart's attachment to them even though he, in appearance, is their master who manages matters for them and administers over them. The sane person should look at the realities (the heart of the matter) and not at the appearance of the matter.

Obsession of the Heart

Whoever's body is subdued, enslaved and captivated will not care so long as his heart is reassured and is serene. In this way, it is possible for him to escape.

The 'Uboodiyah of the heart and its captivity form the basis on which good reward or bad punishment will be incurred:

If a Muslim is captivated by a kaafir or is enslaved by a profligate and given no rights, it will not harm him so long as he can fulfill his duties to Allaah.

Whoever is lawfully subdued and fulfills the rights of Allaah and the rights of his master will be rewarded twice. Even if he is forced to pronounce kufr, pronouncing it with his tongue but keeping eemaan in his heart, his utterance will not harm him.

The one whose heart is subdued and becomes an 'Abd for other than Allaah will be harmed by that even if he is a king!

Freedom is the freedom of the heart and al-'Uboodiyah is the 'Uboodiyah of the heart. Similarly well-being is the well-being of the soul. In the Sunnah: Well-being is not how much wealth you have, but it is the well being of the soul.

This is the case when a lawful image has enslaved ones's heart. Whoevers heart is enslaved by an unlawful image will earn a torment more severe than any known torment.

Continuous attachment of the heart without committing al-Faahishah is more harmful for him than it is for the person who commits a sin and repents of it, since after true repentance the attachment and affection vanishes from the heart.

The greatest cause of this affliction is the heart's turning away from Allaah; the heart needs to taste worshipping of Allaah sincerely... someone will not leave a lover except to replace him with someone more beloved or fearing some harm; turn the heart from a corrupt love to a righteous love.

...Thus (did We order) that We might away from him evil and al-Fahshaa.. [Yoosuf ayah 24]

Thus Allaah turns away from his Abd that which could be evil for him from the inclination towards images and attachment to them. He also turns al-Fahshaa away from him when he is sincere to Allaah. Hence, before he tastes the sweetness of al-'Uboodiyah to Allaah and sincerity for Him, he will be forced by his soul to follow its own passion, but once he gets the taste of sincerity and becomes strong in his heart, then his passion will submit to him without any effort.

...Verily, as-Salaat prevents the committing of blatant sins and iIlegal deeds, and the mindfullness of Allaah is greater indeed [Al-Ankaboot ayah 45]

Indeed in as-Salaah there is repulsion of harmful things, i.e. al-Fahshaa and al-Munkar; and there is attainment of a beloved thing, mindfulness of Allaah. The attainment of this beloved thing is greater than the repulsion of the harmful things. Indeed, the mindfulness of Allaah is, by itself, a worship of Allah; and the heart's worship of Allaah is sought for itself whereas the repulsion of evil from the heart is sought for other than itself . Instead, it is needed for something else.

Indeed he succeeds who sanctifies it (his own soul), and he fails who corrupts it (his own soul). [Ash Shams ayaat 9-10]

Indeed, he shall achieve success who sanctifies himself and is mindful of the Name of Allaah and performs Salaat. [Al-Alaa ayaat 14-15]

Tell the believing men to lower their gaze and protect their private parts from sins. That is more sanctifiying for them...[An-Noor ayah 30]

...And had it not been for the Grace of Allaah and His Mercy on you, not one of you would ever have been sanctified... [An-Noor ayah 21]

Thus the sanctification of the soul comprises getting rid of all evils including blatant sins, injustice, shirk, and lying.

Thus he who seeks leadership becomes the slave of his people in reality! Both manifest worship of each other and both have gone away from His true worship. Hence each one who was a slave and obsessed by his passion becomes subdued by the other! Imagine if their mutual help is for an unjust dominion.

Same for one who strives for wealth. Wealth is of two types:

One type is that for which al-'Abd has a need, such as food, drink, housing and marital life. This type shold be asked for from Allaah and should be sought for His pleasure. Thus, this wealth, which a person uses for his needs, is of the same level as his donkey, which he rides, or his mat, on which he sits. Furthermore, it should be regarded on the same level as a water closet, in which he satisfies his need without becoming subdued or dismayed by it.

Irritable (disorientented) when evil touches him, and niggardly when good touches him. [Al-Ma'aarij ayaat 20-21]

The other type of wealth is that which al-'Abd does not need for his necessities. He should not attach his heart to this type of wealth.

Thus the first hadeeth. This person is indeed a slave of those objects. He asks Allaah for them, if granted he is pleased, but if denied he is upset. However the true 'Abd of Allaah is the one who is pleased with what Allaah and His Rasool love and hates what is hated by Allaah and His Rasool and will make allegiance with Awliyaa Allaah and take for enemies the enemies of Allaah.

The Messenger (S) said, "Whoever loves for Allaah, hates for Allaah, gives for Allaah and denies for Allaah has indeed completed al-Eemaan." [Abu Daawood with good isnaad. See Silsilat Al-Ahaadeeth As Saheehah No. 379]

The Messenger (S) said, "The most strong of Al- Eemaan's ties is love in the sake of Allaah and hate in the sake of Allaah." [Hadeeth Hasan extracted by Ahmad and at-Tabaraanee]

Signs of Love

Allaah has established two signs for people who love Him:

Ittibaa' Ar-Rasool;
Al-Jihaad fee sabeelillaah;

This is because the reality of al-Jihaad is the striving to accomplish that which Allaah loves of imaan and the righteous deeds, and the repulsion of that which Allaah hates of al-Kufr, al-Fusooq and disobedience.

Say: If your fathers, your sons, your brothers, your wives, your kindred, your wealth that you have gained, the commerce in which you fear a decline, and the dwelling in which you delight are dearer to you than Allaah and His Messenger and striving hard and fighting in his cause, then wait until Allaah brings about His decision (torment), and Allaah guides not rebellious folk. [Soorah al-Tawbah ayah 24]

The Messenger said, By Him in Whose Hand is my soul, no one among you will believe until I become more beloved to him than his children, his parents and all mankind together. [Bukhaaree & Muslim]

'Umar ibn al-Khattaab (RA) said, "O Messenger of Allaah, you are more beloved to me than anything else except myself" Then the Messenger of Allaah said, "No, O 'Umar! Until I become more beloved to you than yourself." 'Umar (RA) then replied, "Then, by Allaah, you are more beloved to me than my own self," then the Messenger of Allaah said, "Now, O 'Umar." [Bukhaaree & Muslim]

The reality of loving someone is never complete except by having loyalty to the beloved one, that is, to comply with him by loving what he loves and hating what he hates.

Love motivates the will of the heart. The stronger the love, the more the heart seeks the accomplishment of the beloved things. If love is to be complete, it will require a firm will in achieving beloved things.

The Messenger said, "Whoever calls for guidance will have a reward similar to the reward of those who follow him, without diminishing any of their reward. And whoever calls for misguidence will have a burden similar to the burdens of those who follow him, without diminshing any of their reward." [Muslim]

The Messenger said, "Verily, in Al-Madeenah there are men who never embarked on a jouney nor passed a valley but they were with you." The Sahaabah said, "And they are still in Al-Madeenah?" He said, "Yes, and they are still in Al- Madeenah; they were prevented (from travelling with you) by their excuse." [Bukhaaree & Muslim]

If al-'abd abandons that which he is able to do of al- Jihaad it becomes an indication of the weak love.

Beloved goals cannot be attained except by enduring hateful consequences regardless of whether the love is righteous or corrupt.

If those who love Allaah and His Messenger do not endure ... it shows his weak love.

Mu'min has more love for Allaah as He Ta'aala said:

And of mankind are some who take (for wonship) others besides Allaah as rivals (to Allaah). They love them as they love Allaah. But those who believe love Allaah more (than anything else). If only, those who do wrong had but known, when they see the torment, that all power belongs to Allaah and that Allaah is severe in punishment. [Soorah Al-Baqarah ayah 165]

The lover, because of weakness of mind and corrupt reasoning, may take a route that will not reach the desired goal. Such a route is not praised even if the love itself is righteous and praise-worthy. Then, what if the love is faulty and the route is a dead end?

The heart is inherently in need of Allaah from two aspects

worship; this is the purposive motive;
seeking help & reliance; this is the effective motive;

The heart will not be righteous, successful, contented, pleased, assured except by the worship of Allaah, love of Him and repentance to Him, because it has an inherent need for its Lord.

This will never occur except by the help of Allaah.

It is You we worship, and it is from You we seek help. [Soorah Al-Faatihah ayah 5]

He will never escape the pains of this world and its distress except by making his love sincere and pure for Allaah in such a way as to make Allaah his ultimate desire and the end of his every intention.

If he strives to attain a goal but isn't seeking help from Allaah, relying on Him and depending on Him to achieve it, then he will never gain this true love. For that which Allaah wills will be, and that which He does not will will not be.

The strongest and the most guided are the ones who are most perfect in their 'Uboodiyah to Allaah.

Disdainfulness

The one who submits to Him and to others is a Mushrik. The one who refuses to submit to Him is a Mustakbir (disdainful).

The Messenger said, "Whoever has in his heart an atom's weight of kibr (disdainfulness) will not enter al-Jannah" [Muslim]

Allaah has made al-kibr the opposite of al-eemaan, for al-kibr negates the reality of al-'uboodiyah.

The heart will not dispense with all created beings unless and until Allaah becomes its Lord other than Whom it does not worship.

Ash-Shirk is more dominant among the Christians, while al-Kibr is more dominant among the Jews

As regards the Christians:

They took their priests and their monks to be their lords beside Allaah, and (they also took as Lord) al- Masseh son of Mary, while they were commanded to worship none but one deity. None has the right to be worshipped but Him. Praise and Glory be to him Who is far from having partners they associate (with Him). [Soorah Al-Tawbah ayah 31]

As regards the Jews:

...Is it that whenever there comes to you a messenger with what you yourselves desire not, you treat him with disdain? Some you disbelieve in and some you kill.[Soorah Al-Baqarah ayah 87]

I shall turn away from My Signs those who behave arrogantly on the earth in a wrongful manner, and (even) if they see all the Signs they will not believe in them. And if they see the way of righteousness they will not adopt it as the way, but if they see the way of error, they will adopt that way ... [Soorah Al-A'raaf ayah 146]

Al-Kibr necessarily implies Ash-Shirk, and Ash-Shirk is the counterpart of Al-Islaam, it being the sin which Allaah will never forgive.

Verily Allaah forgives not that rivals should be set up in worship with Him, but He forgives whomever He pleases sins other than that, and whoever sets up rivals in worship with Allaah, he has indeed invented a tremendous sin. [Soorah An-Nisaa' ayah 48]

Verily Allaah forgives not that rivals should be set up in worship with Him but He forgives whomever He pleases other than that, and whoever sets up rivals in worship with Allah, indeed he has strayed far away. [Soorah An-Nisaa' ayah 116]

Hence all the prophets were sent with the Deen of al- Islaam, it being the only Deen acceptable to Allaah.

Noah said:

And if you turn away, I have not asked you for a reward; verily, my reward is only with Allaah. And I have been commanded to be of those who submit to Allaah. [Soorah Yoonus ayah 72]

Concerning Ibraheem:

And who disliked the religion of Abraham except one who fools himself? And We had chosen him in this world; and verily, in the Hereafter he will be among the righteous. When his Lord said to him: Submit! He said I submit to the Lord of the Worlds ... Therefore, do not die except that you are Muslims. [Soorah Al-Baqarah ayaat 130-132]

Yoosuf said:

... Take my soul as the one that submits and admit me among the righteous [Soorah Yoosuf ayah 101]

Moosa said:

... O my people, if you would believe in Allaah then put your trust in Him; if you are truely Muslims.Then they said: We do put our trust in Allaah [Soorah Yoonus ayaat 84-85]

The Messenger said, Allaah says, "Al-'Adthamah (majesty) is My loincloth and Al-Kibriyaa (grandeur) is My garment. Thus, I shall punish whoever challenges Me concerning either of them" [Muslim & Abu Daawood]

Majesty and Grandeur are the peculiarities of Lordship, and Grandeur is of a higher level than Majesty. For this reason He put it at the rank of a garment just as He put majesty at the rank of a loincloth.

That is why the motto (Allaahu-Akbar) of Salah, Adhaan, Takbeer of.'Eid. Takbeer is also favoured in high places such as Safaa & Marwah, and when a man ascends or mounts and animal. Also shaitaan runs away when adhaan is called.

And your Lord said: Call upon Me, and I shall respond to your (invocation). Verily those who disdain My woship will surely enter Jahannam in humiliation! [Soorah AI-Ghaafir ayah 60]

Whoever disdains the worship of Allaah surely must worship other than Him, because man is susceptible to mobilisation by his will.

The Messenger said "The most trustworthy of names are Haarith and Hammaam."[Abu Daawood & Nasaa'ee]

Haarith is the cultivator who is an active earner (provider) and Hammaam is the one who is effective from the onset of intention. For intention is the beginning of the will. Man always has a will; and for every will there must be that which is willed and that toward which it aims. Then necessarily there is for each 'abd a willed, beloved objective, which is the aim of his love and will. Therefore, whoever does not have Allaah as his ma'bood (the worshipped one) then the aim of his love and will disdains to do so. He must necessarily have another as a willed beloved one, worshipping him rather than Allaah. he is then an 'abd for that willed, beloved one, which could be wealth, fame, appearance, or whatever he takes as a deity for worship rather than Allaah.

If man is an 'abd for other than Allaah, then he is surely a mushrik, and every mustakbir is a mushrik. That is why Pharaoh was one of the greatest creatures as to istikbaar.

And indeed We sent Moosa with Our Signs and a manifest authority to Pharoah, Haamaan and Qaaroon, but they called him a sorcerer, a liar! Moosa said: Verily! I seek refuge in my Lord and your Lord from every arrogant one who believes not in the Day of Rekoning... Thus Allah seals up every arrogant tyrannous heart. [Soorah Al-Mu'min ayaat 23-25]

And (We destroyed) Qaaroon, Pharaoh and Haamaan. Moosa came to them with clear signs but they were arrogant in the land, yet they could not outstrip Us (ie., escape from Our punnishment). [Soorah Al- 'Ankaboot ayah 39]

Verily Pharoah exalted himself in the earth and broke up its people into sections, oppresing a group among them, killing their sons and humiliating their women... [Soorah Al-Qasas ayah 4]

And they denied them (those signs) wrongfully and arrogantly, though their souls were convinced thereof then see what was the end of the mischief- makers. [Soorah An-Naml ayah 14]

The greater his istikbaar the greater will be his shirk. He becomes a mushrik by means of that in which he becomes enthralled. See Pharaoh described with Shirk in Sooratul-A'raaf ayah 127.

Verily, We revealed the Torah, in which was guidance and light, and by which the prophets who submitted judged the Jews... [Sooarh Al-Maa'idah ayah 44]

Balqees said:

... O my Lord, I have indeed wronged my soul, now I submit with Sulaymaan to Allaah, the Lord of the Worlds. [Soorah An-Naml ayah 44]

And when I inspired the Disciples to believe in Me and My Messenger, they said We believe! Then bear witness that we are Muslims. [Soorah Al-Maa'idah ayah 111]

Verily the religion with Allaah is Al-Islaam; [Soorah Aal-'Imraan ayah 19]

And whoever seeks other than Al-Islaam as a religion, it will not be accepted from him ... [Soorah Aal-'Imraan ayah 85]

Then do they seek other than the religion of Allaah when whatever is in the heavens and the earth submits to Him, willingly or unwillingly; and to Him they shall be returned. [Soorah Aal-lmraan ayah 83]

Among all creation there is no one single means which can independently generate any good or ward off any evil. Rather, any cause or means is in need of another cause or means which will help it and repel any harm which opposes it and works against it.

Say, "Tell me then, the things that you invoke besides Allaah, if Allaah intended some harm for me, could they remove His harm, or if He intended some Mercy for me, could they stop His Mercy?" Say, "Sufficient is Allaah for me! Those who trust in Him (Alone). [Soorah Az-Zumar ayah 38]

And if Allaah touches you with a harm, none can remove it but He, and if He touches you with good; then He is Able to do all things. [Soorah Al-An'aam ayah 17]

The Islamic Awakening | Important Guidelines

In the Name of Allâh, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful

The Muslim Nation today is experiencing a blessed awakening in all aspects of its affairs; one that has been aroused by the efforts of the Muslim youth.

However, the astute observer of this awakening will find that there are many problems that hinder its progress; problems that have prompted some scholars, callers to Islam, and students of knowledge to lay down some guidelines that the youth of this blessed awakening should adhere to and follow. Without a doubt, the enemies from without — the Jews, Christians, and others — have tried to put a stop to this awakening, simply because they fear the results of its success and because they know that, if it strengthens, spreads, and succeeds in achieving its aims, it will signal the end of their dominance.

What is Required from the Youth of this Awakening.

Firstly, the youth of this Islamic awakening must adhere to two primary sources: Allah’s Book and the Prophet’s Sunnah. It is from these sources that they must take and derive the sound methodology that they will follow in all of their endeavours. If the methodology of the young male and female Muslims of this awakening is not based on Allah’s Book and the Sunnah of Allah’s Prophet (S), according to the understanding of the pious predecessors of this Nation, then it will become a reckless and misguided awakening, and it is feared that it will destroy more than it will build. Secondly, the youth of this awakening must follow the correct methodology that was applied by the chief of mankind, Muhammad (S), and that was then applied after him by the noble Companions (S), and that was then applied after them by the Tabi'iun (next generation after the Companions) as well as by those who continued to follow them until this day. Thirdly, the youth of this awakening must be upon one word, united; their methodology must be one, and their strength must be a united strength, and that is because disunity and discord do not lead to good but instead bring joy only to the enemies of Allah in the East and in the West.

Therefore, we appeal to the scholars, callers (Du'at), and students of knowledge in all places to forsake disunity, discord, and disagreement, and to instead strive with determination to seek out the truth and to follow it, so that they can all meet at a single point and come to the realization that differences in opinion in certain secondary issues of jurisprudence or issues of Ijtihad (issues wherein there is no absolutely clear text that leaves no room for doubt; issues wherein scholars are called upon to weigh the worth of different proofs and to derive rulings from them) are inevitable, and no nation can be saved from them.

My prediction in Egypt is that President Mubarak will order the military to crack down on the protesters

And either they will obey , or disobey

They Obey

There should be a reversion to the aftermath of assassination of his predecessor or the uprising in Syria they would be crushed , arrests , long arbitrary jail terms and torture of anyone that the paranoid government deems a treat

They disobey

IF the military refused to crack down then there would likely result in something like the fall of Communism in the USSR where the army had a choice to support or not to support Yelson . They chose Yelson and revolted against the Communist party and shelled parliament forcing a end to the Soviet rule . Similar the military would have chose Mubarak or the people . If they don’t support him there would have to take some sort of action against him . Members of the government , internal security apparatus ect would have to go into exile . A caretaker government would be set up headed by a intern government led most likely by some kind of military leadership . Then democratic elections , where no one would win a clear majority the muslim brotherhood would have a large block and other parties would be there . Some sort of collation should be formed and they would lead the country . There would properly be pro-US but the stance on Israel would properly be revisited . Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakaatuhu

I ask Allah the Kareem, the lord of the mighty throne to make us amongst those who listen to the speech and follow the best of it. And to make us of those who are guided by the Sunnah of his Prophet and the Sunnah of his righteous Caliphs. And for this reason I say to you that the Messenger of Allah has ordered us to give advice to others as occurs in the Hadeeth of Jareer Ibn 'Abdillah that is narrated in Muslim:

"I gave allegiance to the Prophet upon listening and obidience and advising every Muslim."

On this juncture I advise you with the following:

1. To not go into extremes in terms of the station of the Messenger of Allah. And the Messenger of Allah has said:

"Do not overpraise me like how the Christians overpraised the son of Mary because verily I am a slave therefore say slave of Allah and his Messenger".

And Allah has described his Messenger with the quality of servitude in his best moments. Allah has said:

"Glorified (and Exalted) be He (Allâh) [above all that (evil) they associate with Him] [Tafsir Qurtubî, Vol. 10, Page 204] Who took His slave (Muhammad SAW) for a journey by night from Al-Masjid-al-Harâm (at Makkah) to the farthest mosque (in Jerusalem)... "

Hence you have seen in the Hadeeth that the Messenger of Allah described himself with servitude and messengership therefore pay attention to this may Allah bless you.

2. As for the belief that he is light in himself or that he is created from light this is incorrect. This is because Allah has commanded him to say:

"Say (O Muhammad SAW): "I am only a man like you who has been inspired ..."

This Ayah shows that he was created from dirt. And he was born of a father and a mother and that he eats, drinks and puts on clothing. And the difference between he and us is that he has been given Messengership and Prophethood. And upon this it is upon us to take his as a guide and an example and a light that we use for guidance. But to say that he is light in himself then this does not have any foundation in the texts of the Qur'an and the Sunnah and the speech of the preferred generations.

And if we were to make a correct analogy we would have said that dirt is better than light because Adam was made from clay and the angels that we made from light bowed to Adam after they were commanded to do so.

3. And as for our noble Messenger, it does not have anything from the texts that show he is alive but rather in the texts there is something different. Allah has said

" Verily you will die and they will die"

Verily (Inna) is a preposition of emphasis and the Kaaf at the end of Inna is an attached second person pronoun, and the person referred to is the Messenger of Allah . And the word Mayyit (dead) is something that gives information to the Messenger that he would be amongst the dead. And also the statement of the best of people after the Messengers Abu Bakr As Siddeeq:

"Whoever worships Muhammad then verily Muhammad has died and whoever worships Allah then Allah is alive and never dies."

Therefore reflect upon what the closest of people to the Messenger said.

And the Messenger was bathed and was buried and the people prayed Janazah over him. Therefore, how can he be alive in this dunya?

As for his life in the Barzakh then we do not deny this and this stage of life is confirmed for everyone. And in that stage he replies to the Salaam after Jibreel tells him about it and he does not reply at once as is narrated in the Hadeeth.

4. As for the matyrs, and they are those who died in Jihaad. The Shaheed (matyr) in the battlefied in prayed upon and buried therefore how can't he be dead in this Dunya and his soul has left him? As for his life in the Barzakh the matyr is in the bellies of green birds in Jannah and we do not deny this.

In conclusion, these beliefs are weak. They were not the beliefs of the companions of the Prophet and those who followed them and those who followed them. It was not the belief of the Imams of Fiqh and Hadeeth. Therefore I advise you to return to that which these Imams of guidance and bright lights were upon so that you would gain happiness.

And Allah is the one who gives the Tawfeeq and he guides toward the truth.

Wa Salallahu 'Ala Nabiyina Wa 'Ala Aalihi Wa Sahbihi Wa Sallam.

As for renouncing the love of praise and commendation then this is made easy by your knowing that there is no one who can praise you such that it would benefit you, or censure and vilify you such that it would harm you save Allaah alone.

Sincerity cannot coexist in a heart that contains the love of praise and commendation and the yearning to possess that which is owned by the people save in the manner that fire and water or a lizard and fish may coexist.

If your soul directs you to seek sincerity then first turn your attention towards your yearning and slaughter it with the knife of renunciation. Then turn your attention towards praise and commendation and forsake it with the asceticism of those who loved the world for the sake of the Hereafter. When your slaughtering of your yearning and the renunciation of praise and commendation becomes firm then attaining sincerity will become easy for you.

If it is asked: what may facilitate the act of slaughtering ones yearning and renouncing the love of praise and commendation?I would reply: as for slaughtering your yearning then this is made easy by you having certain knowledge that there is nothing that one would desire except that its treasures are in the Hand of Allaah alone and none has power over it save Him. There is no one who may bestow these things to a servant except for Allaah.

As for renouncing the love of praise and commendation then this is made easy by your knowing that there is no one who can praise you such that it would benefit you, or censure and vilify you such that it would harm you save Allaah alone. This is what occurs in the hadeeth in which the Arab said to the Prophet (sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam), "my being praised is adornment and my being vilified is disgrace," to which the Prophet (sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam) said, "that is (for) Allaah."

[Reported by at-Tirmidhee [no. 3266] with a saheeh isnaad from Baraa`a bin Aazib (RA).]

So renounce the praise of one whose praise cannot beautify you and the vilification of one whose censure cannot disgrace you! Instead desire the praise of the One whose commendation contains perfect beauty and the One whose censure contains total disgrace. This cannot be attained except after patience and certainty for when there is no patience and certainty then you are like one who wished to traverse an ocean without a vessel to carry him!

Allaah said,

"Be patient! Indeed the Promise of Allaah is true and let not those who are devoid of certainty discourage you from conveying (the message)." [al-Rum (30):60]

"We have made from amongst them leaders, guiding under Our Command when they were patient and believed in Our Signs with certainty." [al-Sajdah (32):24]

About a month ago, my cousin Hannah Sahibdeen's kidneys failed her, and she has begun dialysis twice a month.
Its approximately $1000 per session and its quite taxing on her family.
The goverment will help them by reimbursing them with some of the payments eventually.
However, for now, the family has organised a BBQ to offset the expenses incurred. this BBQ will take place on
June 5th and is priced at $25.

My quest is to get sponsors for the cost of the chicken. they need 400 chickens. that means they need ~33 cases
of chicken (12 chickens per case). They are buying it from Arawak directly and it is costing ~$340 per case.

HADITH 23

On the authority of Abu Dharr Al-Ghafari, of the prophet is that among the sayings he relates from his Lord is that He said:p "O My servants, I have forbidden oppression for Myself and have made it forbidden amongst you, so do not oppress one another. O My servants, all of you are astray except for those I have guided, so seek guidance of Me and I shall guide you. O My servants, all of you are hungry except for those I have fed, so seek food of Me and I shall feed you. O My servants, all of you are naked except for those I have clothed, so seek clothing of Me and I shall clothe you. O My servants, you sin by night and by day, and I forgive all sins, so seek forgiveness of Me and I shall forgive you. O My servants, you will not attain harming Me so as to harm Me, and you will not attain benefiting Me so as to benefit Me. O my servants, were the first of you and the last of you, the human of you and the jinn of you to become as pious as the most pious heart of any one man of you, that would not increase My kingdom in anything. O My servants, were the first of you and the last of you, the human of you and the jinn of you to be as wicked as the most wicked heart of any one man of you, that would not decrease My kingdom in anything. O My servants, were the first of you and the last of you, the human of you and the jinn of you to rise up in one place and make a request of Me, and were I to give everyone what he requested, that would not decrease what I have, any more than a needle decreases the sea if put into it. O My servants, it is but your deeds that I reckon up for you and then recompense you for, so let him who finds good praise Allah, and let him who finds other than that blame no one but himself."p related by Muslim.

HADITH 19

On the authority of Abdullah bin Abbas, who said : One day I was behind the prophet and he said to me: "Young man, I shall teach you some words [of advice] : Be mindful of Allah, and Allah will protect you. Be mindful of Allah, and you will find Him in front of you. If you ask, ask of Allah; if you seek help, seek help of Allah. Know that if the Nation were to gather together to benefit you with anything, it would benefit you only with something that Allah had already prescribed for you, and that if they gather together to harm you with anything, they would harm you only with something Allah had already prescribed for you. The pens have been lifted and the pages have dried."

So know that what ever Allah wants to give to is either a something good or bad

Subhaanallaah. I not sure how to introduce this advice (to myself firstly and everyone who reads this), except to say that Ibn 'Umar used to say: "Take from your health for your sickness and take from your life for your death."

This is an excerpt (I transcribed it from the youtube video) from a brother that was paralysed (may Allaah cure him and make it easy for him). It a tremendous, tremendous reminder for us.

Interviewer: "Of course, this is the Qadr of Allaah ('Azza wa Jall) and we do not object to it, Allaah says: "..And perhaps you dislike something that is good for you, Allaah knows and you do not know." However Yaa Abdallaah, I ask you (tell me) about the most important things that you used to have (and now you don't) and you would wish to have them back after what afflicted you from your paralysis."

Abdullah: "Wishes?"...... (he pauses), I have three wishes that concern me but I cannot have them.

(First)
I wish I could prostrate to Allaah just one sajdah......then never rise from it. (he smiles)

There is an ayah in the Qur'aan that says:

"On the Day when the Shin will be uncovered, and then they will be called to sujood (to prostrate) and they will not be able to..." (Surah Al Qalam)

Today, I can't make sujood (prostration) I wish I could prostrate to Allaah just once.....but when I was able to walk, I used to leave off and neglect many of the Salaah.

Some people perhaps feel sad for me (in my condition) right??.....(he pauses), when they see me like this, they are grieved....but those people were not sad when I never used to pray (the Salaah).

Interviewer: "The second (wish)?"

Abdullaah: "The second? (I wish) that I was able to turn one page of the mus-haf (i.e. the Qur'aan)......this is something you people don't realise, (to do that) is like (climbing) a mountain for me.

The third.....is that in a Day of 'Eid or a special occasion or a day of happiness, (I wish I could) enter through the door and embrace and hug my mother.....

And concerning his mother, Yaa Subhaanallaah, listen to what he says....may Allaah pardon and forgive us. Aaameen.

Kindness to the Animals!

Bismillaah Wal Hamdulillaah Was Salaatu Was Salaamu 'Alaa Rasoolillaahi Wa Ba'd:

What compelled me to (roughly) translate these short words was what I saw recently....a young muslim putting some food for a stray dog @a family day...mashaAllah. Then when the dog approached to eat the food, the boy scared the dog away and laughed and the fools around him laughed also. Then the dog came back and he scared him away again, 'I can't resist'. Allaahul Musta'aan!

May Allaah help us not to look at the small things with insignificance.
From Shaykh 'Uthaymeen’s (rahimahullah) Sharh of Riyaadhus Saaliheen:
That the Prophet salalahu 'alaih wa sallam said:
"One day a man was walking on a path (travelling) and was suffering from severe thirst so he found a well, so he descended into and drank. When he came out he saw a dog lolling its tongue, eating the moistened earth (or dirt/sand) out of thirst. So the man said: 'What has afflicted this dog (from severe thirst) is the same as what afflicted me.' So he descended into the well again and filled his shoes(sandals) with water then held it in his mouth until he climbed up and made the dog drink it. So Allaah appreciated this act of his and pardoned him. Then (the Companions around him) said: Allaah's Messenger, is there for us a reward even for (serving) such animals? He said:Yes, there is a reward for service to every living animal."
And in another narration from Saheeh Al Bukhaaree: "Allaah appreciated this act of his, forgave him and entered him into the Jannah."
And in another two narrations (from Saheeh Al Bukharee and Muslim): "...Once a dog was circling around a well on the verge of dying of thirst. When a prostitute from the prostitutes of Bani Israa'il saw it so she put her shoe in the well (filled her shoe with water) and gave it to drink from that and she was forgiven on account of that action."

The explanation:

'The author mentions (rahimahullah ta'ala) in the chapter: 'The many ways of achieving good/blessings' this strange story which was narrated by Abu Hurairah from the Prophet salallahu 'alaihi wa sallam that once a man was walking on a pathway travelling, he became afflicted by thirst, so he descended into a well and drank from it and his thirst was quenched. However, when he was exiting from the well there was a dog eating the moist dirt on account of its extreme thirst i.e. eating the wet, damp soil,eating it from thirst in order to suck or consume the water that was in it due to extreme thirst. So the man said, by Allaah, what has afflicted this dog is the same as what afflicted me. (or a similar statement which carries the same meaning). So he descended into the well and filled his shoe(khuff) with water and the khuff is what covers the foot made from dried skin and the like. So he filled it with water and carried it in his mouth. And started to climb up with his hands until he climbed out of the well. Then he gave the dog to drink. So when he gave it to drink, Allaah appreciated that action from him, forgave him and entered him into the Jannah on account of it.

And this is the truthfulness and the reality of the statement of the Prophet, salallahu 'alaihi wa sallam, "The Jannah (Paradise) is closer to one of you than the strap of his sandal, and the Hell-fire is also like that."
A deed which earned the appreciation of Allaah for the one who did this action, He forgave him and entered him into Jannah.
And when the Prophet salallahu 'alaihi wa sallam narrated this hadeeth to the Comapanions and they were the most anxious and keen of the people in seeking and acquiring knowledge, not just so they would know, but in order for them to know and to act upon it. They asked the Prophet salallahu 'alaihi wa sallam: 'O Messenger of Allaah! Is there a reward for us in serving these animals?' And he said: "There is a reward for serving everything that has a wet liver (i.e. every living thing)." Because this dog is from such animals.
So how is there for this man who gave the dog to drink such a great reward? Is there for us in serving these animals a reward? He said: "There is a reward in serving everything that has a wet liver." The wet liver requires water, because if there is no water in it dries up and the animal dies.
Therefore, we take from this a principle, and that is, when the Messenger narrates to us a story from Bani Israa'il then that is so we take a lesson from it and take from it an example to follow. And this is like Allaah Ta'ala said: "Indeed in their narrations are lessons for those of understanding." (Surah Yusuf)
And in another narration, and perhaps it is an another story (entirely) that a prostitute from Bani Israa'il i.e. she was paid for intercourse, and Allaah's refuge is sought, that she saw a dog circling a wall, and it was thirsty but could not reach the water (to drink), because it was a wall of a well, so she threw her shoe into the well (collecting water thereby) and gave the dog to drink from that so Allaah forgave her.
So this indicates that in serving animals there is reward. Every animal you show kindness to by feeding it, giving it to drink, sheltering it from heat or cold, whether it belongs to you or other than you from the people, whether it is a stray animal, then verily in this there is a reward for you with Allaah, the Mighty and Majestic, this (reward) and they are only animals! So what then (is the reward) in showing kindness and serving human beings? If you show kindness and goodness to human beings the reward will be greater and more abundant.
And in regard to this, the Prophet salallahu 'alaihi wa sallam said: "Whoever gives a muslim to drink, then Allaah will give him to drink from the sealed nectar." (Translator's Note: Imaam At Tirmidhee graded this hadeeth as ghareeb and Shaykh Al Albaanee graded it as da’eef in his checking of Sunan At Tirmidhee) i.e. If you young son stands at the refrigerator and says to you: "I want water" and you give him to drink while he was thirsty, then you have indeed given a muslim to drink upon his thirst, then Allaah will give you to drink from the sealed nectar. An abundant reward! And for Allaah is the Praise.
Free spoils (i.e. easy opportunities to attain rewards)! But where is the one who takes these free spoils? Where is the one who purifies his intention, and hopes for the reward from Allaah?
So I advise you O my brother and myself, to always strive to grasp and seize the good deeds with a sincere intention until it becomes an asset for you with Allaah on the Day of Qiyaamah. For how many small deeds became great on account of the niyyah accompanying it? And how many large deeds became small (in value) on account of negligence regarding it?

What is the Digital Economy Act?

The Digital Economy Act is a newly passed piece of British legislation that is meant to protect copyright online and increase regulation and control of the way people use the Internet.
How did it happen?

* The entertainment industry is refusing to adapt to new models, clinging to obsolete 20th Century thinking.
* The Bill was drafted by unelected officials after lobbying from the entertainment industry.
* It was passed in a hurry during the Parliamentary "wash up" process without full scrutiny.

Why should you be worried?

* Websites will be blocked for alleged copyright infringement.
* Families accused of sharing copyrighted files will be disconnected without trial. They will have to pay to appeal.
* Even if you don't live in the UK, it sets a worrying precedent for other countries to follow suit.

Disconnection or "technical measures" like bandwidth throttling will kick in if file sharing does not drop by an incredible 70%. There are no alternative punishments to disconnection, no matter what the damage it will cause, and there is no statutory limit on the length of these disconnections, called, in the weasel words of the Act, "temporary account suspension".

Despite thousands of letters of concern and a petition with over 35,000 signatures of protest, the Bill was rushed through in the final days of parliament during the "wash up process" - it was not given the full scrutiny that it deserved.

This is a piece of legislation that gives potentially unlimited power to unelected officials, and assumes guilt on the part of those accused of copyright infringement. We can expect the industry lobbies to be out in force to roll back our human right to freedom of expression in the name of copyright very, very soon.

What's happening now?

Now that the Bill has been passed and the election is underway, candidates from all the main parties are keen to distance themselves from it. They admit that there are serious concerns and that the Bill did not receive the scrutiny and debate it deserves.

A Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) tank truck is caught filling a pool at a private residence on Columbus Circle, Westmoorings, on Wednesday night.

In the middle of the worst drought in Trinidad and Tobago since 1987, a truck belonging to the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) has been discovered pumping drinking water into a swimming pool in a private residence undergoing renovation in the upscale neighbourhood of Westmoorings. WASA in a statement last night said the water was requested for “construction purposes,” for a house it is leasing for its foreign CEO. Tipped off by a photograph sent by a resident of the La Riviera high-rise apartment, two Guardian journalists caught WASA employees pumping water into the pool located at Columbus Circle in Westmoorings on Wednesday night.

When the WASA employees realised that they were being photographed and filmed, they immediately unhinged the hose from the water wagon and drove off. One of the WASA employees was heard repeating the licence plate number of the Guardian. Less than five minutes later, a vanload of policemen arrived on the scene, with one saying that they had been told of two suspicious characters in the neighbourhood. Faced with the drought and rapidly-declining water levels in the nation’s resevoirs, WASA has repeatedly appealed to the public to use less water in the last two months. The authority has also criminalised the use of hoses to wash cars and water lawns and has reduced the regularity of supply to households across the nation. On Monday, WASA officials told a news conference that the country’s water situation was approaching crisis levels.

The water levels in the Caroni Arena dam, which accounts for 35 per cent of the country’s water supply, had fallen to 40 per cent, the Navet dam to 48, and both Hollis and Hillsborough to 50 per cent, according to the utility’s corporate communications manager, Ellen Lewis. Lewis commended the public’s support of WASA’s water conservation programme, but said more efforts were needed to preserve reserves. Last night, the utility issued the following statement: “WASA is in the process of leasing the property to use as accommodation for the foreign national who has been identified to fill the position of Chief Executive Officer following an extensive recruitment exercise.

Upon inquiries we learnt the property is being renovated by the owner and that the water was requested for construction purposes.” Told of WASA’s explanation that a pool full of water was needed to renovate a house, one of the country’s most experienced builders scoffed audibly and said: “For actual construction activity, you would need 15 to 20 gallons a day for the mortar for plastering. You would get water for the concrete from the readymix companies and there would be need for a small amount of water for drinking and washing up purpose. You would not need a pool full of water.”

WASA CEO promises probe
Contacted last night, WASA’s acting chief executive, Jim Lee Young, said it is against the utility’s policy to provide water to fill a residential swimming pool. “I can categorically state that we will not supply water for use in a swimming pool. If a construction site requests water for construction purposes, and is a legitimate WASA customer, we will provide water for that.”

Stressing that he had not seen the report on the issue on CNC3 last night, an angry Lee Young described the WASA truck providing water to a swimming pool as “an abuse of what we are trying to do. I feel very strongly about this. That is not on.” He promised an investigation to get to the bottom of the matter.

A brief article with advice to the men reminding them that marriage is not lust, but rather responsibility.
"This is deception to the woman and dishonesty and misleading her; and if a man came to his daughter or his sister and he knew that he did not want her except for this purpose he would not allow him to marry her, but when it comes to other people’s daughters he does whatever he wants. "

The noble Shaykh, the Muftee of the committee of major scholars in Saudi Arabia, Shaykh 'Abdul-'Azeez ibn 'Abdullaah Aali Shaykh declared that marriage is not just about lust and fulfilling the desires rather it is security and living together and stability.

The noble Shaykh said: Some of the Muslims have an incorrect understanding about marriage, understanding it in a way other than its reality. Some of them have an understanding that marriage is simply about fulfilling their desires, so although they might implement the legislated marriage contract, their intention with this marriage is not stability nor commitment rather he marries and in himself he is planning to divorce her, meaning he knows in himself that he will marry her for a specific time period even if he does not mention this or disclose this.

So he marries her due to his desire for her, not to have serenity and peace of mind with her, but he only counts her as just a simple pleasure; so he’s always on the verge of divorcing her and bringing in someone other than her. So he is a husband and at the same time he mixes this with the intention of divorce. And he does not want from the woman anything other than pleasure.

This is decieving the woman and dishonesty and misleading her; and if a man came to his daughter or his sister and he knew that he did not want her except for this purpose he would not allow him to marry her, but when it comes to other people’s daughters he does whatever he wants.

And all of this is from deception and dishonesty and fraud and betrayal. And for this reason Islaam has prohibited temporary marriage; and this is to marry for an estimated number of days for an agreed upon specific duration. Therefore this was made impermissible due to the harms that it contains.

And the Shaykh said: So what the person does not like for his daughters then he should not like it for the daughters of the Muslims.

And the Shaykh said: And some of the people might travel to places in order to find marriage for a specific number of days or months and he thinks this is a marriage contract and all of this is trivial to him, so he falls into sin.

And there are some who marry a number of women before (the other women he divorced) finishing their waiting period. So he will merge the marriage to more than ten women in one month without any concern for the Islamic legislated contract.

And the Muftee said: The Muslim must have good judgment and he should not let his goal be to fulfill his desire in a way that is not in accordance with the Islamic legislation. And he must adorn himself with the manners of Islam, and he must look at other people’s daughters just like he looks at his own daughters and his own sisters, and he should put people in the position that he likes to be in.

Therefore if the person believes it allowable to do evil to the daughters of others and to not comply with the Islamic standard and then he does not want this same evil for his daughters; then why this discrepancy? Where is the balance, where is the justice?

Unfortunately, there are some Muslims who make permissible that which Allaah has made impermissible so in a matter of days they marry a number of women, all with the intention of divorce, seeking by this to gain some benefit (from the wife) in the summer or the winter or other than this, and Islaam prohibits this. Therefore Islam wants for us to be well-balanced in our contracts and to put others in the position of our daughters and our sisters and to be truthful in our dealings.

And the Shaykh said: …and some of them go and travel and get married against the normal system and then they fall into sin or serious situations and perhaps they might abandon their wives or leave them and not return to them after they have become pregnant or given birth to his child, so this exposes the Muslim descendants to danger. And some of them don’t care about their wives or their children so major problems occur as a result of this treacherous marriage.

If “oppression” didn’t work, it’s a “health hazard.” Yes, the old talk about how Hijab can cause vitamin D deficiency in women has resurfaced. As science gets political, “facts” are derived from preformed conclusions. The “truth” that researchers arrive at nowadays depends on who is funding the research.
So time and again Muslim women in the West have been told that their wearing of Hijab is causing vitamin D deficiency, as “proven” by research, which was no more than a study revealing such a deficiency in Asian or Arab women. Studies however have also shown something else: 54% of black and 42% of white childbearing women in the Northern US were found with insufficient vitamin D levels.
Unless it is believed that such a large percentage of North Americans are good Hijabis who cover themselves up completely, the accusation falls flat.
Dr. Abdul Majid Katme of the Islamic Medical Association in Britain said, “This is a common fallacy among the people of the West. It is a medical fact that diet is the main cause of vitamin D deficiency among some Asians, and not lack of exposure to the sun. We Muslims who live in the East and Asia are exposed to the sun all the time and our houses, yards and private gardens are full of sunshine.” (Q-News, 1995)
Vitamin D is important and Allah has so perfectly made our body that it produces the vitamin automatically when exposed to sufficient sunlight. Normally one would receive enough exposure even while staying at home by just standing by the window or in the balcony – with or without Hijab. In fact, Hijab has nothing to do with it because exposure to sun doesn’t mean every part of the body must be exposed.
Mona Salama, an Egyptian nutritionist and pediatrician, was asked in an online Q&A session on Islamonline.net (2007) on the issue of Hijab and sunlight. She replied:
“Alhamdulliah (that we are) Muslimat (Muslim women) and that we wear Hijab. Besides protecting us from bad looks and immodest people, Hijab also protects our skin from the damages of ultraviolet rays. Overexposure to sunlight causes more than 90 percent of all premature aging (sagging, bagging, wrinkling, scaly skin) and 90 percent of all skin cancers. “Ultraviolet rays cause skin damage and weaken the skin structure by diminishing production of elastin and collagen, the two important substances that keep skin firm, youthful and wrinkle-free.
“There are three main types of UV rays (UVA, UVB and UVC). The truth is we need the sun’s UVB rays as it triggers our supply of vitamin D which in turn regulates Calcium. This gives us stronger bones and disease protection. But it only takes 10 minutes of sun exposure to manufacture a month’s worth of vitamin D, and the Hijab can by no means block this benefit. It’s easy to get the necessary amount simply by taking a short walk at lunchtime with your Hijab or simply stand in the balcony, also with your Hijab, for 10 minutes.”
For Muslims, the natural scientific benefits that come with following our Creator’s laws is not the reason for following Islam. We follow Allah’s laws in full obedience and submission to our Creator – out of our will and love. Allah praised the believers who say: “We hear, and we obey. (We seek) Your Forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the return (of all).” (Qur’an, 2:285)
He also instructs us: “It is not for a believer, man or woman, when Allah and His Messenger have decreed a matter that they should have any option in their decision. And whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger, he has indeed strayed in a plain error.” (Qur’an, 33:36)
Whether we come to know of the benefit of a particular injunction or not, we submit to the divine laws because of our firm belief in the truthfulness of Qur’an as the Word of God and Islam as the Religion of God. This belief is not blind, but based on solid evidences and indisputable facts that are more than sufficient for mankind to believe in His message. – SG

This green slug, which is part animal and part plant, produces its own chlorophyll and so can carry out photosynthesis, turning sunlight into energy, scientists have found.

A green sea slug appears to be part animal, part plant. It's the first critter discovered to produce the plant pigment chlorophyll.
The sneaky slugs seem to have stolen the genes that enable this skill from algae that they've eaten. With their contraband genes, the slugs can carry out photosynthesis — the process plants use to convert sunlight into energy.
"They can make their energy-containing molecules without having to eat anything," said Sidney Pierce, a biologist at the University of South Florida in Tampa. Pierce has been studying the unique creatures, officially called Elysia chlorotica, for about 20 years. He presented his most recent findings Jan. 7 at the annual meeting of the Society for Integrative and Comparative Biology in Seattle. The finding was first reported by Science News.

"This is the first time that multicellar animals have been able to produce chlorophyll," Pierce told LiveScience.

The sea slugs live in salt marshes in New England and Canada. In addition to burglarizing the genes needed to make the green pigment chlorophyll, the slugs also steal tiny cell parts called chloroplasts, which they use to conduct photosynthesis. The chloroplasts use the chlorophyl to convert sunlight into energy, just as plants do, eliminating the need to eat food to gain energy.

"We collect them and we keep them in aquaria for months," Pierce said. "As long as we shine a light on them for 12 hours a day, they can survive [without food]."

The researchers used a radioactive tracer to be sure that the slugs are actually producing the chlorophyll themselves, as opposed to just stealing the ready-made pigment from algae. In fact, the slugs incorporate the genetic material so well, they pass it on to further generations of slugs.

The babies of thieving slugs retain the ability to produce their own chlorophyll, though they can't carry out photosynthesis until they've eaten enough algae to steal the necessary chloroplasts, which they can't yet produce on their own.

The slugs accomplishment is quite a feat, and scientists aren't yet sure how the animals actually appropriate the genes they need.

"It certainly is possible that DNA from one species can get into another species, as these slugs have clearly shown," Pierce said. "But the mechanisms are still unknown."

The prehistoric relatives of this megafish inhabited many parts of the world, but today gars live only in North and Central America.

Steven Dale Green, 24, of Midland, Texas, received five consecutive life sentences for the rape and murder of an Iraqi teenager and the shooting deaths of three of her family members. Green, a former member of the 101st Airborne Division, was convicted in May in Paducah, Ky.

PADUCAH, Ky. - A former U.S. soldier received five consecutive life sentences Friday for his role in the rape and murder of an Iraqi teenager and the slaying of three of her family members.

"What the defendant did was horrifying and inexcusable," U.S. District Judge Thomas Russell said in sentencing Steven Dale Green, 24. "The court believes any lesser sentence would be insufficient."

A civilian jury convicted Green in May of raping Abeer Qassim al-Janabi, conspiracy and multiple counts of murder.

Green shot and killed the teen's mother, father and sister, then became the third soldier to rape her before shooting her in the face. Her body was set on fire March 12, 2006, at their rural home outside Mahmoudiya, Iraq, about 20 miles (32 kilometers) south of Baghdad.

Green was the first person charged under the Military Extraterritorial Jurisdiction Act, a law passed in 2000 that allows U.S. authorities to prosecute former military personnel, contractors and others for crimes committed overseas.

Unanimous decision couldn't be reached
The panel couldn't reach an unanimous decision about whether Green should get a death sentence, automatically making Green's sentence life in prison. Barring a successful appeal or presidential pardon, Green will not be eligible for release from prison.

Green told the judge he merely followed orders from other soldiers involved in the attack.

"You can act like I'm a sociopath. You can act like I'm a sex offender or whatever," Green said. "If I had not joined the Army, if I had not gone to Iraq, I would not have got caught up in anything."

At a hearing in May, Green repeatedly apologized to the al-Janabi family, saying he knew little about Iraqis and realizes now his actions then were wrong. Green described the attacks as "evil" and said when he dies "there will be justice and whatever I deserve, I'll get."

During Green's trial, defense attorneys never contested Green's role in the attacks. Instead, they focused on saving his life by putting on witnesses that testified that the military failed Green on multiple fronts — by allowing a troubled teen into the service, not recognizing and helping a soldier struggling emotionally and providing inadequate leadership.

During the sentencing hearing, defense attorney Patrick Bouldin said Green tried to take responsibility for his role in the attacks, twice offering to plead guilty and serve life in prison. Assistant U.S. Attorney Marisa Ford said one offer came on the eve of jury selection, the other two weeks into jury selection.

‘All I ever did was what they told me’
Green and four other soldiers with the 101st Airborne Division based at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, were investigated after the killings. Three who went to the family's home, along with Green, received lengthy sentences up to 110 years but will become eligible for parole in seven years. Another who had a lesser role was released from military prison after serving 27 months.

All except Green were charged under the Uniform Code of Military Justice and faced a military trial, known as a court martial. Two of the soldiers who were at the home when Green shot the family pleaded guilty and a military jury convicted a third.

Green said the idea of his co-defendants being out of prison one day is "all right with me."

"They planned it," Green said. "All I ever did was what they told me to do."

By the time the Army pressed charges in June 2006, Green had been honorably discharged with a personality disorder and returned to the United States. Because Green had been discharged, prosecutors filed an indictment against him as a civilian.

An excerpt from a book about a young muslim girl who started to wear hijab

I'm walking around the stores as if I'm in combat mode, avoiding eye contact with other people and waiting for something to happen. But as I browse through the stores I realize how uncomforable and irrational I'm acting because it feels like most people really couldn't care less. I mean, sure there's staring, but it's not enough to rate in my fears list. There are the occasional goggle-eyes but most people give me the once-over top to bottom, which I can deal with. I'm just one more late-night shopper, one more person to bump shoulders with, negotiate a crowded line with. My mother gets this. She walks and talks as though she doesn't even realize she's wearing the hijab. It makes me feel kind of protected because she's so confident and dignified. I wonder how long it will take me to feel and act this way.

While I'm walking through the food court I pass three women who are all wearing the hijab. They're huddled around a table, talking and eating ice cream. One of them catches my eye and smiles.
"Assalamu Alaykom," she says, greeting me with the universal Islamic greeting, peace be upon you.
"Walaykom Wassalam," I reply, smiling back at her. The other two girls also greet me and I reply and they all smile warmly at me. They go back to their conversation and I walk off with a big grin because it is now that I think I begin to understand that there's more to this hijab than the whole modesty thing. These girls are strangers to me but I know that we all felt an amazing connection, a sense that this cloth binds us in some kind of universal sisterhood.

I lie in bed that night and replay the scene over and over in my head. I'm experiencing a new identity, a new expression of who I am on the inside, but I know that I'm not alone. I'm not breaking new ground. I'm sharing something with millions of other women around the world and it feels so exciting. I know some people might find it hard to believe but walking around the mall tonight I'd never felt so free and sure of who I am. I felt safe from people judging me and making assumptions about my character from the length of my skirt or the size of my bra. I felt protected from all the crap about beauty and image. As scared as I was walking around the stores in the hijab, I was also experiencing a feeling of empowerment and freedom. I know I have a long ways to go. I still dressed to impressed and I took ages to get my makeup, clothes, and hijab just right. But I didn't feel I was compromising myself by wanting to make an impression. I was looking and feeling good on my own terms, and boy did that feel awesome.

Doctor Saud al-'Ajaaji who was amongst those who accompanied Shaykh al-'Uthaymeen on the last medical trip he made to Boston (a city in America) said,

“Whilst we were leaving the hotel where we were staying in, a little American boy who was with his mother stood in front of him - the Shaykh caught his attention because of his Saudi thawb and abayah - so he began to touch him on his head and to play with him. So his mother asked him to greet the Shaykh and he returned an even better greeting. Then the Shaykh said directing his speech to the mother 'May Allaah guide you to Islaam' all during which he kept lowering his gaze. Then the mother told her son to bid the Shaykh farewell by saying to her son, 'Tell him have a nice day.' So the Shaykh asked me what he said, I told him he said ‘Have a nice day.’ However some of those who were accompanying him became annoyed because of the way in which the woman was dressed. One of them even made some remarks towards her, but the Shaykh did not like this and he said, 'O brothers this is not from the mannerisms of Islaam, the mother and he son were smiling at us and they were very cordial in speech, so it is upon us to reciprocate the favour. So rather then make du'aa against them, we should make du'aa for her which by the way is the path of this exalted religion.'”

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Soldiers from an Army unit that had 10 infantrymen accused of murder, attempted murder or manslaughter after returning to civilian life described a breakdown in discipline during their Iraq deployment in which troops murdered civilians, a newspaper reported Sunday.
Some Fort Carson, Colo.-based soldiers have had trouble adjusting to life back in the United States, saying they refused to seek help, or were belittled or punished for seeking help. Others say they were ignored by their commanders, or coped through drug and alcohol abuse before they allegedly committed crimes, The Gazette of Colorado Springs said.
The Gazette based its report on months of interviews with soldiers and their families, medical and military records, court documents and photographs.
Several soldiers said unit discipline deteriorated while in Iraq.
"Toward the end, we were so mad and tired and frustrated," said Daniel Freeman. "You came too close, we lit you up. You didn't stop, we ran your car over with the Bradley," an armored fighting vehicle.
With each roadside bombing, soldiers would fire in all directions "and just light the whole area up," said Anthony Marquez, a friend of Freeman in the 1st Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment. "If anyone was around, that was their fault. We smoked 'em."
Taxi drivers got shot for no reason, and others were dropped off bridges after interrogations, said Marcus Mifflin, who was eventually discharged with post traumatic stress syndrome.
"You didn't get blamed unless someone could be absolutely sure you did something wrong," he said
Soldiers interviewed by The Gazette cited lengthy deployments, being sent back into battle after surviving war injuries that would have been fatal in previous conflicts, and engaging in some of the bloodiest combat in Iraq. The soldiers describing those experiences were part of the 3,500-soldier unit now called the 4th Infantry Division's 4th Brigade Combat Team.
Since 2005, some brigade soldiers also have been involved in brawls, beatings, rapes, DUIs, drug deals, domestic violence, shootings, stabbings, kidnapping and suicides.
The unit was deployed for a year to Iraq's Sunni Triangle in September 2004. Sixty-four unit soldiers were killed and more than 400 wounded — about double the average for Army brigades in Iraq, according to Fort Carson. In 2007, the unit served a bloody 15-month mission in Baghdad. It's currently deployed to the Khyber Pass region in Afghanistan.
Marquez was the first in his brigade to kill someone after an Iraq tour. In 2006, he used a stun gun to shock a drug dealer in Widefield, Colo., in a dispute over a marijuana sale, then shot and killed him.
Marquez's mother, Teresa Hernandez, warned Marquez's sergeant at Fort Carson her son was showing signs of violent behavior, abusing alcohol and pain pills and carrying a gun. "I told them he was a walking time bomb," she said.
Hernandez said the sergeant later taunted Marquez about her phone call.
"If I was just a guy off the street, I might have hesitated to shoot," Marquez told The Gazette in the Bent County Correctional Facility, where he is serving a 30-year prison term. "But after Iraq, it was just natural."
The Army trains soldiers to be that way, said Kenneth Eastridge, an infantry specialist serving 10 years for accessory to murder.
"The Army pounds it into your head until it is instinct: Kill everybody, kill everybody," he said. "And you do. Then they just think you can just come home and turn it off."
Both soldiers were wounded, sent back into action and saw friends and officers killed in their first deployment. On numerous occasions, explosions shredded the bodies of civilians, others were slain in sectarian violence — and the unit had to bag the bodies.
"Guys with drill bits in their eyes," Eastridge said. "Guys with nails in their heads."
Last week, the Army released a study of soldiers at Fort Carson that found that the trauma of fierce combat and soldier refusals or obstacles to seeking mental health care may have helped drive some to violence at home. It said more study is needed.
While most unit soldiers coped post-deployment, a handful went on to kill back home in Colorado.
Many returning soldiers did seek counseling.
"We're used to seeing people who are depressed and want to hurt themselves. We're trained to deal with that," said Davida Hoffman, director of the privately operated First Choice Counseling Center in Colorado Springs. "But these soldiers were depressed and saying, 'I've got this anger, I want to hurt somebody.' We weren't accustomed to that."
At Fort Carson, Eastridge and other soldiers said they lied during an army screening about their deployment that was designed to detect potential behavioral problems.
Sergeants sometimes refused to let soldiers get PTSD help or taunted them, said Andrew Pogany, a former Fort Carson special forces sergeant who investigates complaints for the advocacy group Veterans for America.
Soldier John Needham described a number of alleged crimes in a December 2007 letter to the Inspector General's Office of Fort Carson. In the letter, obtained by The Gazette, Needham said that a sergeant shot a boy riding a bicycle down the street for no reason.
Another sergeant shot a man in the head while questioning him, lashed the man's body to his Humvee and drove around the neighborhood. Needham also claimed sergeants removed victims' brains.
The Army's criminal investigation division interviewed unit soldiers and said it couldn't substantiate the allegations.
The Army has declared soldiers' mental health a top priority.
"When we see a problem, we try to identify it and really learn what we can do about it. That is what we are trying to do here," said Maj. Gen. Mark Graham, Fort Carson's commander. "There is a culture and a stigma that needs to change."
Fort Carson officers are trained to help troops showing stress signs, and the base has doubled its number of behavioral-health counselors. Soldiers seeing an Army doctor for any reason undergo a mental health evaluation.

So yesterday I went down on the small islands to go fishing . So for the first time its me against the elements , . . . . . . . the the fishes won

( 1 ) I had to wake up early in the morning like 4:am , I don’t wake up so early may b fajir and then go back to sleep , but I man am not a earlbut I man am not a early bird

( 2 ) I had to drive across the country , I had to try this 5 hour energy drink thing , well it did work that day .

( 3) Now the day b4 I went to the pharmacy and saw a first aid kit , but of course I was just too cheap to buy it and guess who was the first man to fall of a 6 inch rock to the ground and cut his hand , yea me , and guess what the sea that day happened to b salty so I bathing and this having salt in my wond all the time

( 4) Now officially it was a “ fishing “ trip so the nice tropical sandy beach thing took second place to the island next door with the friking cactus growing yes ppl I was on a rocky , island with cactus , but I guess the fish like it .

( 5 ) the first thing I saw was a sting ray , sorry some other kind of ray a egily ray or something and I antmit it I am a little coward me in the water in with a black ambush predator that lives inder water ( where I bathing ) and a long spiked tail that can hit me in my little friend , hell man what if I het it hit I don’t even have reception on my cell phone I die of pain or shame depending of which happens first . So I swimming in fear of this ray hitting me in my balls hand burning but what the hell was still good .

( 5 ) Of course I did climb up and 2 b honest I could see the fish , they could see me , I jumped on them they swam away . but what the hell I hear to bathe right .

( 6 ) Of course these fishes seem to develop a bad relationship us , we caught like 2 three inch fishes , so we had to move , So guess who had to spend 2 hrs in the hot sun ( yea for some reason it was hot that day ) . and it I had to sit on the rocks in the sun the rocks sticking me in my ass .

( 7 ) Then the boatman came we learnt why he was late he had another trip so we packed up like fish in the boat moving to the other island , when we reached , one of the guys was like look Carrea I was like what that ? and apparently we have a prison island , and of all topics of conservation how easy it would b to swim across .

( 8 ) well other than the turtle watching me , I falling to light a fire ( dam waste of time all that survivor man I watch on discovery ) my shades falling in the water over the cliff . Coming with fellas and yea like we did not realize there was this thing call lunch . my total lack of skill catching fish .

Of the things i hate is ppl who put a price of their religon they selll it like it were fish i nthe market . Lakt week i was by my family and she was tellingme about the " Mufti " who use to steal cable TV and sell it to the village . and i was like what the hell a true Scholar does not lie he pratices the religon . I not even talking about all the movies on cable TV and if this is halal or not for the record i still watch TV still dont make it right or remove the rubbish there is on it .

I talking to family again and she is telling me that she went to the " mufti " and he see 25,000 jins ( sprits ) around her and these were harming her . Now i hope its not the guy thats stealing cable but i mean how exactly did he get that number ?? i wonder if i give him a jar of 2,500 jelly beans if he could look at and count them far less for 25,000 jiins . Now dont get me wrong we beleive in the unseen the jins included however there are many ....... and i looking 4 a word for me to discribe these ppl .... fools ...liers..... ok my mind wondering on some 4 letter words that i don't want to write here . These ppl are all too willto exploite the ingorance of the ingorant ppl for their own gain either for money or glory or what ever . They tell ppl the mop their house with salt or tie a taweez ( amulet kinda like a lucky charm ) to their necks What ? U putting your trust in salt and not in Allah ? the lucky charm is more powerful than Allah ???? Is this Islam . I was on line the other day and i came across a picture of some young muslim girls being pushed around by police . Some were hit , taken to the police station some were crying .

They were from turkey ............

Now i have many thoughts on the matter , i really not going to waste time to talk about the history of how turkey was one of the states formed @ the fall of the ottoman empire ( together with others like Greece ) or how they tried to " westernize " and basically ban islaam .

But i looking at the picture and wondering why is all the fuss about a little girl wanting to wear a piece of cloth on her head ? what is the ....... ( i looking 4 words here eh ) ahhhh , what u must show your manliness by beating down a little girl ? Is this what U R about ? Begging like a dog to get in to europe they dont want U , get it through your thick skulls they are racist , prejust bastards . Forget what they write about equality talk to your family in germany as how they are treated look @ the apartment building they burnt down turks inside ant all . take a hint .

I guessing this is properly a politically charged issue over there but take it some one from the out side it all really looks dumb . Now i live in a multicultural democracy and yes we are richer than you . But truth b told it's really not all that.

Answer:

If what is intended by "politics" is the administering of the ummah, then the reality is that politics is not from the acts of one individual from the people of the ummah, but rather, it is from the duties of the Muslim State. This is if the objective behind politics, as we stated before, is the administering of the ummah and the managing of its concerns in order to rectify what is in it from its religious and worldly affairs. So if this is what is intended by "politics", then this is fard kifaayah (a collective obligation). However, it is not for those people who are not in control of the state or of the rule, nor for those who can neither produce benefit nor cause harm.
As for obtaining the news to be aware of the state of affairs and the weakness the Muslims are in, and in order to avoid this outcome, then as we say, this is from the tasfiyah (purification) and the tarbiyah (educating) – purifying Islaam from what has entered into it and focusing on educating the Muslims and bringing them up on this purified Islam. So knowing these general circumstances, which encompass the Muslims, is a must for the matter is as the old Arab poet has stated, taking his meaning from an authentic hadeeth:"I learned evil not for the sake of evil, but to avoid it And whoever doesn't know good from evil, he will fall into it."

This is derived from a hadeeth – and I mean by it, the hadeeth of Hudhaifah Ibn Al-Yamaan, radyAllaahu 'anhumaa, which is reported in the Saheehs of Al-Bukhaaree and Muslim. He, radyAllaahu 'anhumaa, said: "The people used to ask Allaah's Messenger, sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, about the good, but I used to ask him about the evil for fear of it reaching me." So being aware of what the Muslims are upon from humiliation and weakness in order to turn them away from that towards using the means of knowledge, strength and power, this is an obligation from the many obligations.

As for engaging at length in obtaining news, knowledge of battles and western politics, then this is from the aspect of: "Knowledge of something is better than being ignorant of it." This is something that we do not forsake. However, at the same time, we must not be very enthusiastic and fanatical about it. This is since the Prophet, sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, did not establish the affair of his Companions on knowing and following precisely, the news of his enemies to the same extent as he, sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, used to focus on teaching his Companions from one perspective and cultivating them on Allaah's command from another perspective. This is our belief concerning politics based on their two categories, which we have mentioned previously.

There is no basis for these actions in Islaam. And it is in opposition to the Islaamic methodology with regard to establishing the da'wah (Call to Islaam) and creating the right atmosphere for it. Rather, it is only an innovation introduced by the disbelievers, which has influenced some Muslims. This is what I stated in my notes and explanation to Al-'Aqeedah At-Tahaawiyyah.

Does your laptop spend more time on your desk that your lap? If so, you're probably causing your battery to wear out much sooner than it needs to.

See, it's a sad (and expensive) fact of life: You're lucky to get 18-24 months from a battery before it loses a good chunk of its charge capacity (meaning it no longer powers your laptop for as long as it used to).

And you're accelerating this unfortunate timeframe if you leave your laptop plugged in 24/7, which is common for most folks who work at a desk. Because the battery rarely (if ever) gets a chance to discharge, it loses its capacity to hold a charge.

The simple solution: Pull the battery out of the laptop and leave it out when you're deskbound. Most laptops can run on straight AC power, so there's no need for the battery. And it's easy enough to pop back in when you hit the road (though obviously you'll want to make sure it's charged, so plan ahead a bit).

It's a hassle, sure, but consider the price of a replacement battery: usually $100 or more. What's more, old, discarded batteries wreak havoc on landfills. Sooner or later, they'll leak acid into the ground. So it's in your best interests to keep your battery as long as possible, and to keep it from dying a premature death.

8-month-old babies have 1,000 trillion brain synapses.

Synapses are connections between neurons, the cells that control brain functioning. Baby brains go crazy with these connections, making many more than adult brains need. This way, the brain is able to learn what the most useful and efficient connections are, rather than having to have this information programmed into genes. If a synapse doesn't get used, it gets pruned away. By the time a child is 10, the number of synapses in his brain has been cut by half.
Because of this, what people learn in early childhood is incredibly important. If a child doesn't learn to talk, which has happened in some cases of severe neglect, it's likely they'll never be able to, because the synapses that would have enabled communication were never used and therefore destroyed. On the other hand, if the pruning process doesn't stop naturally, as it normally does, even essential connections can get the ax. Researchers at Stanford University recently discovered that certain degenerative diseases, including glaucoma, get their start when the brain continues to destroy synapses.

As-Salaamu 'alaikum wa rahmatullaah,

My respected Muslim brothers and sisters, may Allaah shower you with His mercy. We advise all of you to avoid any form of street demonstrations taking place anywhere. They are not from the means of rectification of the hardships that befall the Ummah. Rather, as Shaikh Muhammad ibn Umar al-Bazmool stated, demonstrations are not from the means of rectification, not from the Sunnah of the Messenger (sallallaahu alaihi wassallam) and nor from the sunnah of the righteous predecessors. The major scholars have spoken against partaking in demonstrations – the likes of Shaikhs Ibn Baaz, Ibn al-Uthaimeen, al-Albaanee and al-Fawzaan. Demonstrations are not considered as being from the means of da’wah nor jihaad as the scholars have explained. So beware and warn the muslims from participating in this futile act that is not from the Islamic religion.

As for what you can and should do, then please read this advice of Shaikh Saalih al-Fawzaan:

Question: Noble Shaikh, there have come many questions asking about the position a Muslim should take with regard to what is going on with our brothers in Palestine, with respect to supplicating (for them), giving them money or making Jihad with them.

Answer: What is obligatory for the Muslim is that he make du’aa (supplicate) for his Muslim brothers, and assist them with money. He should aid them with money and supplication. This is what is obligatory on them and this is what will benefit them (i.e. the Palestinians).

Question: May Allaah reward you O Shaikh, the next questioner is asking: What is the ruling on demonstrating. Is it considered Jihad in the Cause of Allaah?

Answer: There is no benefit in demonstrations – it is just commotion. It is from the types of disorder. How will it cause harm to the enemy if the people go out and demonstrate in one of the streets, raising their voices? Rather, this is from the things that will only make the enemy pleased and happy. Thus he will say: “This has harmed and hurt them.” So the enemy will rejoice.

Islaam is a religion of tranquility and calmness; it is a religion of knowledge. It is not a religion of clamor and commotion. It is a religion that strives to achieve tranquility and calmness, while at the same time, (encourages) doing deeds that are of benefit and praise, such as providing support for the Muslims, supplicating for them and providing them with money and weapons. This is praiseworthy. And also (what is beneficial is) arguing on their behalf to the various countries that the oppression they are in be uplifted and requesting from these countries, which claim to have democracy, that these Muslims be given their due rights. And the humanitarian rights is what these people boast so much about. However, according to them the only human is the disbeliever, whereas the Muslim in their eyes is not a human being – he is a terrorist! They call the Muslims terrorists! And the human being that has (humanitarian) rights, to them, is the disbeliever!

So the Muslims must follow and adhere to the methodology Islaam has prescribed with regard to these occurrences and other situations. Islaam did not come with demonstrations and shouting and raising the voices out loud. It did not prescribe destroying property or committing violations. All of this is not part of Islaam. Yes… Nor does this bring about any benefit. This only causes harm to the Muslims and it does not harm the enemy. This only harms the Muslims and it does not harm their enemy. In fact, their enemy rejoices at this and says (to himself): “I have affected them”, “I have made them angry” and “I have influenced them.” Question and Answer session on Paltalk

PARIS (AFP) – A stunningly intact 220-million-year-old fossil found in southwestern China appears to have settled a long-simmering debate over reptile evolution: how did turtles get their shell?
In a study to be published Thursday, scientists report on the discovery of a missing-link species -- Odontochelys semitestacea, for "toothed, half-shell turtle" -- whose outer shell emerged directly from the ribs and backbone and not from the skin, as some have argued.
The find also suggests that turtles originated in water rather than on land, and pushes back the group's first known appearance on Earth by some 10 million years.
Since the era of dinosaurs, which roamed the planet until 65 million years ago, turtles have looked pretty much the way they do today.
They sport an armour-like upper shell, known as a carapace, connected to a softer lower part, called a plastron.

More than 1,000 species discovered in Mekong: WWF

BANGKOK (AFP) – Scientists have discovered more than 1,000 species in Southeast Asia's Greater Mekong region in the past decade, including a spider as big as a dinner plate, the World Wildlife Fund said Monday.
A rat thought to have become extinct 11 million years ago and a cyanide-laced, shocking pink millipede were among creatures found in what the group called a "biological treasure trove".
The species were all found in the rainforests and wetlands along the Mekong River, which flows through Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam and the southern Chinese province of Yunnan.
"It doesn't get any better than this," Stuart Chapman, director of WWF's Greater Mekong Programme, was quoted as saying in a statement by the group.
"We thought discoveries of this scale were confined to the history books."
The WWF report, "First Contact in the Greater Mekong", said that "between 1997 and 2007, at least 1,068 have been officially described by science as being newly discovered species."
These included the world's largest huntsman spider, with a leg span of 30 centimetres (11.8 inches), and the "startlingly" coloured "dragon millipede", which produces the deadly compound cyanide.

Iraqi journalist throws shoes at Bush in Baghdad

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- A man identified as an Iraqi journalist threw shoes at -- but missed -- President Bush during a news conference Sunday evening in Baghdad, where Bush was making a farewell visit.

Bush ducked, and the shoes, flung one at a time, sailed past his head during the news conference with Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki in his palace in the heavily fortified Green Zone.

The shoe-thrower -- identified as Muntadhar al-Zaidi, an Iraqi journalist with Egypt-based al-Baghdadia television network -- could be heard yelling in Arabic: "This is a farewell ... you dog!"

While pinned on the ground by security personnel, he screamed: "You killed the Iraqis!"

Hurling shoes at someone, or sitting so that the bottom of a shoe faces another person, is considered an insult among Muslims.

'Godzilla' Fossils Reveal Real-Life Sea Monster

Fossils from a real-life sea monstera massive crocodile-like specieshave been unearthed in Patagonia, Argentina. The animal likely measured 13 feet (4 meters) long from nose to tail.

The researchers who made the discovery say the marine reptile, nicknamed Godzilla, lived about 135 million years ago. They describe their find in the November 11, 2005, issue of the journal Science.

Details about the ancient predator will also appear in the December 2005 issue of National Geographic magazine. The article will feature exclusive images, like this illustration, of what the reptile might have looked like.
